I too am sick of hearing about the “big tent”. That is just code language for selling out your core values. There is much that the Republican Party has that is attractive to the majority if only the leadership actually found out what those things are.

Republicans are supposed to be for fiscal responsibity, not bribing voters with their own money as Bush tried to do with his “compassionate conservatism”. Many of Bush problems came from his “big tent” approach. He wanted to badly to be loved and the liberals just pooped all over him.

Fiscal responsibility means that the government should respect that IT’S THE PEOPLE’S MONEY! Republicans should run adds showing Americans struggling to earn their daily bread. How about an add showing people digging out of a foot of snow to get to their jobs. How about a scene of people commuting to work in a long traffic jam? How about guys working construction on a hot sweaty day? How about white collar workers at their desks at 9 pm when they should be home with their families? How about a woman rushing to drop her kids off at daycare so she can earn her paycheck?

Show people that we respect their hard work and that the government should be cautious when they lay claim to some of the worker’s hard earned pay.

Another thing that we all care about is national security. Emphasize that America has to be #1 in military strength and intelligence. Emphasize that whatever our political differences we should NEVER, NEVER play political games with our national security. Political one-upmanship should never be a factor in national security issues.

See it isn’t that hard if you have some core beliefs.
