LEV L. DASSIN, the Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that HAROLD LEE CHANG YEN, 37, was sentenced today in Manhattan federal court to five years in prison and lifetime supervised release for receiving and distributing child pornography. The sentence was imposed by United States District Judge NAOMI REICE BUCHWALD.
YEN, of the Bronx, was arrested on January 11, 2007, by special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation ("FBI"), and has remained detained since his arrest. According to the charges, court papers, and statements made by YEN during his guilty plea to Count One of the Indictment against him, YEN had collected child pornography since the late 1990s. YEN used Peerto- Peer software to obtain and share child pornography over the Internet, and also stored child pornography on a collection of approximately 100 CDs and DVDs which were seized by FBI Agents during a search of YEN's apartment.
This case reflects the enforcement goals of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to coordinate federal, state, and local law enforcement resources to investigate and prosecute child exploitation cases and rescue the victims of those crimes.
