The GOP Doesn't Understand Sex [Meghan McCain on Bristol Palin, abortion, abstinence]
The Daily Beast ^ | 2009-05-07

Bristol Palin's new abstinence campaign shines a light on the Republican Party's unhealthy attitude about sex and desire.

BY MEGHAN MCCAIN

The first time I ever heard about oral sex was during the Lewinsky scandal. Mostly, I remember being confused by President Clinton’s response—“it depends on what the meaning of ‘is’ is”. When it comes to sex, politicians face all sorts of double standards: who is allowed to have sex with whom, what constitutes sex, and whether it’s appropriate, to name a few. Candie’s Foundation’s announcement that they were partnering with Bristol Palin to promote an abstinence-only campaign has caused me to reflect on my own experiences as a political daughter, and the role sex plays in defining the Republican party.

Let me get something straight: Bristol Palin, as an eighteen-year-old adult, is free to make her own choices and decide how she wants her life to unfold. But for whatever reasons, the American public and media remain overly engrossed in our politicians’ sex lives and, as in this case, those of their families. There’s an especially unhealthy attitude among conservatives. Daughters of Republican politicians aren’t expected to have sex, let alone enjoy it—as if there were some strange chastity belt automatically attached to us female offspring. God forbid anyone talk realistically about life experiences and natural, sexual instincts. Nope, the answer is always abstinence.

LOL! Me too.

Ideals are not to be judged by how well you have adhered to them - we all make mistakes and fall short. But if you don't have any ideals or standards, you end up like - well, a ghetto baby mama or a bitter harridan like Meghan.

An interesting fact is that research in cemeteries in New England showed that a large number of people in the 17th and early 18th centuries must have been conceived before the marriage dates of their parents. However, their parents did marry and did produce stable families that shaped these people.

Things happen. But ideals are important, and you do the best you can - and if you fall down, you get up again and try to strive.

They never mention the possible consequences of indiscriminate sex, they just keep sending the bills to us!

Did John ever discuss responsibilties and obligations with Meghan? She doesn't ever mention them.

Here’s what I’ve never understood about the party: its resistance to discussing better access to birth control.

Better access? Meghan, is there some part of the country where Republicans have outlawed drugstores?

Nope, the answer is always abstinence.

Yes, Megan, the answer IS always abstinence. . .if you want to avoid pregnancy and STDs and live a moral life. If that isn't what you want, the go ahead and be a slut.

Guess what, Megan, you little skank. Research shows that, Playboy fantasies notwithstanding, married people have better sex lives than those engaging in sex outside of wedlock.

It seems the only way that True Republican Megan McCain can write an article helping the Republicans is by attacking them.

She complains about being the focus of the press in 2000 and then turns the focus back onto Bristol Palin.

When will this harpy-in-waiting’s 15 minutes be up?

Obviously MEGHAN MCCAIN needs some education. She has no business commenting on anything to do with the GOP but because she says stupid stuff and some of that stupid stuff is critical of the GOP, the MSM is happy to support her need to get attention. Lets cut out paying any attention to her and she might go away.

When will this harpy-in-waiting’s 15 minutes be up?

When the good people of the state of Arizona get sober and retire her senile fool of a father at the ballot box.

Ask some of you new friends on the view. They will point out how much you've learnded without even realizing it.

Ok, here’s my response to all those who say “abstinence programs don’t work”.

“OBVIOUSLY BIRTH CONTROL FOR TEENS DON’T EITHER OR THERE WOULDN’T BE ANY TEENAGERS PREGNANT”.

Thank you.
