LOL
“”Tuscumbia is in North Alabama, fairly close to the TN state line.””
Thank you. We had to get to post #31 to learn this! What would it have taken to give us the state instead of all the prior smart remarks? A state abbreviation would have been simpler..
Maybe I’ve grown complacent, but I say this is going to turn out to be nothing. Which, IIRC the 10,000 gallon tanker truck of gasoline turned out to be some months back.
Now, the swine flu..............oh, wait, that’s going to be forgotten in a week too.
Or, you could have simply looked among the keywords, not that the location of the theft is particularly relevant given that it could be in your neighbor's garage at this very moment.
I sincerely hope and pray that you're absolutely right.
Now, the swine flu..............oh, wait, thats going to be forgotten in a week too.
You may be correct there also, although this issue may have 'legs' because it's a 'race issue' now....
VIDEO You swine! Mexican defender spits and sneezes on opponent after flu jibes get up his nose
'You turn the television on and all you hear about is the flu, and Mexico is mentioned a lot.
'It's almost like a type of discrimination and even to an extent sort of like racism.
Yes and no, just any old fertilizer will not do for bomb making so it's not all "media hype". You are looking for ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3) which is about 32-35% nitrogen. Your garden supply 10,10,10 is just not going to work. The AN part of ANFO is 35,0,0 and best if not "prilled" with clay as the clay keeps the AN from absorbing the FO. The thing is that the non-prilled AN is hydrophilic and will absorb moisture from the humidity in the air and render the AN into a solid mass, again making it unsuitable for use as ANFO. Lending new meaning to the phrase "keep your powder dry"!
Urea, also a commercial fertilizer, can also be used as an explosive but requires more in the way of chemical treatment to be useful. The first attack on the World Trade Center was a urea fueled bomb.
So endith today's lesson.

GtG
I suggest they find it.
Indeed. From the article's description of 30 or so bags weighing a total of a thousand pounds, it sounds like a volume that could fit in any delivery van or covered pickup truck.
Hopefully more evidence will be uncovered which will help to narrow this down a bit.
Amen Brother, and don’t forget, you need a high order power to make it go boom, caps won’t work
When fertilizer is outlawed, only outlaws will have fertilizer.
I figured it was in Britain or Italy.
I checked the WHNT website, as they are located here in Huntsville, AL, and so far no updates to the story. Just a request to notify Crimestoppers.

Thanks very much for your update; it's sincerely appreciated :-)
“Police are still on the hunt for the fertilizer and the people responsible for taking it.”
Personally, if it was me I would be looking in the Tuscaloosa and Montgomery area’s.
The UAW has to make their auto takeover’s work. Look out Mercedes and Hyundai.
Maybe a third party would be interested in buying stolen untraceable fertilizer...
I contacted WHNT via their web site yesterday and heard back from the reporter this afternoon. Nothing new to report but she did say the local authorities are working with federal investigators to try to apprehend and identify the crooks. Also the story rose to the “top read” news story on their web site . . . perhaps from extra clicks from FR. Wonder why stories like this never hit FOX much less the MSM? IF they want the public to really be an extra layer of protection by keeping an eye out for suspicious activity they should report stuff like this more widespread.

Agreed on all counts, thank you. I also find it odd that this has not received more coverage, as it is essentially a matter of a large quantity of a primary WMD component being in criminal hands anywhere at all in the United States. It certainly deserves far more news coverage than it’s gotten. Perhaps there’s a media desire to downplay any domestic-terrorism news due to the fact that it immediately begs the question of how safe are we now under Barry-O versus President Bush. One can only wonder, but thanks very much for your diligence.
Your welcome. I wrote her back and thanked her for writing and will let you know IF they report any additional developments.
