Abortion bill not top priority -- Obama
UPI ^ | 4/29/09

WASHINGTON, April 29 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama said Wednesday his position on abortion rights has been consistent but the Freedom of Choice Act is not among his top priorities.

At his third prime-time news conference since assuming office 100 days ago, Obama said people on both sides of the issue must recognize abortion is both a moral and an ethical issue. He said people on the pro-choice side are mistaken when they say abortion is merely "about women's freedom" without recognizing any other considerations.

"I'm pro-choice because I don't think women take that issue casually," he said. "Women are in a better position to make those decisions … than members of Congress or the president of the United States."

Obama said energy would be better spend in coming up with ways of reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies, especially teen pregnancies.

"The Freedom of Choice Act is not my highest legislative priority," Obama said. "The most important thing we can do is to tamp down some of the anger surrounding the issue to focus on those areas we can agree on."

Good play on words for Obama to appear "pragmatic" and "moderate" on this issue...not "my highest legislative priority" doesn't mean not a priority. Ugh.

Waiting for marriage has only failed once in history.

"The Freedom of Choice Act is not my highest legislative priority," Obama said.

So that means it's your second highest, right?

Translation: I can’t get this enacted through legal means without alienating the public and the courts.

Of course when he was talking to Planned Deadbabyhood a few months ago, he said that FOCA was his highest priority.

Which proves that he can't be trusted, no matter what he says.

Simply lip service to calm down the Notre Dame issue. Probably delayed until after the graduation exercise.

“The most important thing we can do is to tamp down some of the anger surrounding the issue to focus on those areas we can agree on.”

What exactly does that mean? Now in addition to removing our Constitutional right to express our opinions about homosexuality (but only if those opinions are not that it’s the greatest think since sliced bread), are we going to outlaw discussions on abortion as well? Will it be a hate crime to say something like “life begins at conception” because it’s violating the rights of women to control their own bodies?

What anger is he talking about? All the screaming, violence and hysteria is on the baby-killing side. Or maybe Obama has in mind those 324,000 people who have signed a petition for him to not speak and Notre Dame, based on his pro-death views?

"Women are in a better position to make those decisions … than members of Congress or the president of the United States."

Murdering a human is like deciding what color dress to wear to the prom...decisions decisions. Freddie Kruger would approve of the callousness that these heartless borgs are instilling in our society.

This is hypocritical anyhow, because he will not countenance anyone “interfering” with these women’s “freedom” by attempting to persuade them to refrain from killing their unborn baby. To him that would be worse than trying to persuade them to be Christian.

"He said people on the pro-choice side are mistaken when they say abortion is merely "about women's freedom" without recognizing any other considerations."

That's the one thing obama's got right. It's not just about women's freedom.

It's about the child's right to life.

So, if women WEREN’T “taking this decision seriously,” he WOULDN’T be “pro-choice?”

“Women take this seriously...” Irrelevant. Bank robbers take robbing banks seriously.

This is one of the stock Straw Men of the baby-killers. I.e., if you are pro-life, you are demeaning women; you are implying that women are flighty, shallow, irresponsible flibbertigibbets. You sexist!

And that “focus on the areas we agree on” crap. In other words: “We HAVE legal abortion. Those who oppose legal abortion should shut up. Look, a squirrel!”

So by that logic, a woman can also kill her husband, right? Or her already-born children? I mean, don't mothers know best?

Abortion bill not top priority -- Obama

Of course not. As so many of our fellow FReepers are correctly stating, Obama can't waste this breakout of "Swine Flu" as a opportunity to seize and nationalize our healthcare system.

He can order "mandatory abortions" anytime he likes after that...

Funny what a deceitful person will say when they don’t want to get booted from speaking at Notre Dame! Go to YouTube and replay his speech to Planned Parenthood wherein he says the first thing he would do is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. Which one is true? Wait until after the May 17th commencement at Notre Dame and see what a priority it is. His backpeddling now has it’s purpose.

Sure...why not, humans are just disposable pieces of tissue that come in different genetic flavors. Rainbow protoplasm. The only thing I object to is the idea of even slightly torturing our enemies....that's just wrong. Teaches the children the wrong message. I mean really...my convenience and sex life means way more than some human life. Didn't you get the memo?
