The two Britons suffering from swine flu are newlyweds who spent their honeymoon in Mexico, it was revealed today.
Just weeks ago, Iain Askham, 27, and his new wife Dawn, 24, tied the knot and set off to Cancun for a dream holiday.
But days after returning, they started feeling sick and have now found themselves at the heart of a possible global flu pandemic.
The Askhams fell ill after returning from Mexico last Tuesday, where the outbreak of the H1N1 strain is believed to have first crossed from pigs to people.
The couple, from Polmont, near Falkirk, flew home to Scotland with flu-like symptoms but did not realise the potential gravity of their condition.

Needless to say, Cancun is a high-end tourist resort. There are people from all over the world flying in and out of there.
I think I heard that Oaxaca, another tourist resort, was also affected. And of course a lot of business people fly through Mexico City.
Napolitano has ensured that it will be all over the U.S. in any case. But I suspect that this Cancun connection may spread it widely in Europe and the Far East as well.
And yet our government doesn’t want to close the borders.
Well: It’s probably too late anyway.
