The Declaration of CumanĂ¡: Capitalism 'threatens life on the planet'
Rabble.CA ^ | 4/24/09

We, the Heads of State and Government of Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Honduras, Nicaragua and Venezuela, member countries of ALBA, consider that the Draft Declaration of the 5th Summit of the Americas is insufficient and unacceptable for the following reasons:

- The Declaration does not provide answers to the Global Economic Crisis, even though this crisis constitutes the greatest challenge faced by humanity in the last decades and is the most serious threat of the current times to the welfare of our peoples.

- The Declaration unfairly excludes Cuba, without mentioning the consensus in the region condemning the blockade and isolation to which the people and the government of Cuba have incessantly been exposed in a criminal manner.

For this reason, we, the member countries of ALBA believe that there is no consensus for the adoption of this draft declaration because of the reasons above stated, and accordingly, we propose to hold a thorough debate on the following topics:

They go back and forth. Lots and lots of Latins are angry about the embargo on trade with Cuba because if they go there for the cheap whores they'll get a Cuban stamp on their passports and they figure they'll be "watched" in the US.

They worry too much. All our people know Hondurans like those cheap Cuban whores.

I am fluent in Spanish, been so all my life, and I can't make the New Socialism rhetoric fit the words to the acronym.
Alba means "dawn" and the grandiloquent goal was a new hope among the poorest of latin American countries both in resources and in human values.

Of course fitting the square peg of rhetoric into the round hole of reality can't possibly work.

A new Socialism for the 21st Century? The image at the link is the perfect metaphor for the sad actors in a banana republic comedy movie; a bad parody of the Soviet Union of 90 years ago.

I started to quote their stated goals, but I couldn't stomach the puerile mix of lashing out at the hand that feeds it, and delusional goals that can never be achieved; The only thing that can save those poor countries: a solid, educated and motivated middle class, and a system of government based on merit not the destructive two class system.

At least in the old two-class system the upper rulers were, in fact, educated. The new system is long on incomprehensible rhetoric and short on actual achievement. Take away their imaginary enemy and they are purposeless and helpless.

What will be their sad condition when the vehicle of their hatred, oil, runs out? I shudder to think.

What buffoons. Everyone these days is a “capitalist.” Human beings have been capitalists since they first began to fashion primitive tools, and so increased production and living standards. There is statist capitalism, as under fascism, Obamaism, socialism, and Communism, and then there is free market capitalism. Free-market capitalism has steadily raised the living standards of all humankind. Even Commie regimes have so benefited, by stealing capital from the Free World, in the form of software, blueprints, and so forth. Marxist regimes only do a couple things extremely well, to wit, building prisons and creating misery.
