This just in from friends on the scene...
California Republican Party (CRP) opposes Prop 1A-1F
Mike Villines & Tom Campbell had spoken in favor of 1A and Steve Poizner against.
Took then long enough to decide that. and AFTER they already donated somewhere between $650,000 to over a million dollars on ads FOR it. (According to John and Ken - their numbers were over a million, they got someone from the CA party to admit to $650,000). Either way - they’re a disgrace.
Clemenza opposes ALL mobocratic “ballot initiatives” (a gift of the “progressive” movement), especially in a world where half the sheeple have IQs under 100. If the morons in Cali can’t govern via a representative Republic, then maybe we should prevent them from breeding.
This must have required a number of meetings to hash out. It’s such a complex issue. /s
I sure hope the party leaders are okay. This must have created an awful lot of stress for them.
Jellyfish, one and all...
What part of 'headstart doesn't work', don't politicians get yet? I'm not into funding rampantly redundant programs either, so it will take a compelling argument to persuade me to vote NO to continue funding 'expansion in local' early childhood ed and/or mental health programs. (1d and 1e)
..I appears Sacramento figures they could play a little shell game and grab more power for themselves along with some stealth tax increases—I’m voting no across the board...
By the way, didn't Arnie win re-election in 2006 by saying he had "learned his lesson" and "gotten the message" not to try to pass half-@$$ed "reforms" through special election ballot propositions? And I think he promised that he would "never" try that again. Why isn't anyone calling this RINO to task for his 180o flip-flop from 2006? The TV ads would be great, showing Arnie hasn't "learned" anything and is pushing the same failed policies he tried five years ago, instead of all that "live within our means" lies he promised during the campaign. He's right back where he started, letting the legislature go on a spending orgy and claiming voters have to approve some poor written "reforms" or the state is dooooooooooooomed.
How many times does Arnie have to get slapped down at the ballot box before he gives up? This guy is a glutton for punishment. What an economic girly-man
You’d never know they opposed it unless you visited their website. They have placed no ads, sent no flyers, gone public on no radio shows, given no media interviews, etc.
They did give 3/4 of a million bucks to Arnie for his PRO campaign, though.
Anything? Anything at all?
This is all I've heard...
An anti-1A TV advert appeared today on my telly... from people such as the California Federation of Teachers.
Radio advert against 1A from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association
Radio advert against 1A from "Californians against new taxes"
It's been up to individual members such as Tony Strickland (who was on my radio recently) making the rounds in opposition to all the initiatives.
It looks like some of Arnie's buddies have abandoned him (thankfully):
CALIFORNIANS AGAINST NEW TAXES, NO ON 1A COMMITTEE Contributor Date Amount PETER FOY & ASSOCIATES May 1, 2009 $25000.00 LINCOLN CLUB OF ORANGE COUNTY Apr 30, 2009 $25000.00 HAROLD SIMMONS Apr 30, 2009 $10000.00
Why would you be sure of that? I think they were shamed into opposing them and did so only with the promise that they wouldn’t lift a finger to defeat them. I’m on their mailing list and haven’t received a thing. They beg for money — that’s about it.
During the last special election, I received fancy pamphlet after pamphlet telling me how to vote. This time: NADA, Zip, Zero!
1A 1B 1C 1D 1E 1F Arnold Schwarzenegger Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Jerry Brown Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Antonio Villaraigosa Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Gavin Newsom Yes Yes No No No No Dianne Feinstein Yes Yes No NP NP ? Tom Campbell Yes No No Yes Yes No Meg Whitman No No No Yes Yes Yes Steve Poizner No No No No No No Tom McClintock No No No Yes Yes No HJTA Calif. Teachers Assoc Yes Yes ? ? ? ? SEIU No ? ? ? ? ? (NP = No position)
By the way, here's the quote from Arnie in 2006 saying he "learned" not to try to ram "special election" propositions before voters. Or maybe not:
"I pushed too fast," he said of the special election. "There were good ideas there, but I did not bring all the legislators on board. I didn't bring people together enough, and therefore the thing failed. But I leaned my lesson from that."

These guys are a little late, already sent in my ballot with them all marked with a great big NO! Anyone that can read should be able to figure it out for themselves but I am glad the CAGOP came out against it. I just wish they would have done so before absentee ballots were sent out.
CAGOP RINO Central is strangely quiet. They just can’t bring themselves to take any action beyond the usual tepid squeeks. If they continue on their present New Majority, big-tent, country club heading, they deserve what they will get: more disinterest and non-support from CA Republican voters,
