NY Governor Introduces Bill To Allow Gay Marriage
WEWS-TV / The Associated Press ^ | April 16, 2009

Gov. David Paterson introduced a bill Thursday to legalize same-sex marriage in New York, comparing the effort to the fight for the abolition of slavery.

Paterson, whose job approval rating has plunged below 30 percent, is making a political gamble that he can ride the momentum of other states that have recently allowed the practice, and it's unclear how the legislation will play in New York.

The proposal is the same bill the Democratic-controlled state Assembly passed in 2007 before it died in the Senate, where the Republican majority kept it from going to a vote. Democrats now control the Senate, but opponents are vowing to make sure this one fails, as well. Some Democrats in the Senate have indicated they won't support a same-sex marriage bill.

Guy’s blind. He doesn’t care who’s in the sack with him.

Wasn’t there a Democrat Senator saying he didn’t want the Dems running the NY senate because he’s a pastor and he’s afraid they will bring up “gay marriage”..Democrats are liars.

Excuse me, but the governor isn’t a member of the legislative branch, therefore, he can’t introduce legislation.

I wish, oh, I wish I were a divorce lawyer in any state that sanctions gay marriage. I would be a billionaire in about two or two and a half years of litigation. Considering that the average homosexual “togetherness” last less than a year.

I find it more than coincidental, in that, he was at Archbishops first Mass in NY yesterday. Yawned all the way through and looked like he wanted to be anywhere but at the Mass. When Archbishop Dolan condemned the death of babies in the womb he got a standing ovation, this guy along with Schumer and Bloomberg sat until they were embarrassed into standing. I think this is a little payback to demonstrate to the Church to show whose has the real power! I say this because I was expecting a retaliation. We’ve made our politicians wayyyyy too powerful.

I love it when liberals cheapen their own pet causes.

They tried it before but the legislate was republican and it got tossed. Now it’s the lefties who are in charge so I’d say it has a good chance.

The gay marriage thing is not what God intends. This is what God intends, as stated in the ceremony from the church I attend:

Dearly beloved: We have come together in the presence of God to witness and bless the joining together of this man and this woman in Holy Matrimony. The bond and covenant of marriage was established by God in creation, and our Lord Jesus Christ adorned this manner of life by his presence and first miracle at a wedding in Cana of Galilee. It signifies to us the mystery of the union between Christ and his Church, and Holy Scripture commends it to be honored among all people.

The union of husband and wife in heart, body, and mind is intended by God for their mutual joy; for the help and comfort given one another in prosperity and adversity; and, when it is God’s will, for the procreation of children and their nurture in the knowledge and love of the Lord. Therefore marriage is not to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly, but reverently, deliberately, and in accordance with the purposes for which it was instituted by God.

Indeed. Elton John and Ellen Degeneres really do suffer far more than African Americans did on a plantation in 1837 Alabama/sarc

Cool. I would love to see a video of that. Unborn babies are the true victims/underdogs in 2009 America. They’re the only oppressed group that literally cannot fight back. That’s why no one who opposes their rights to life can truly say he supports human rights.

This is going to get Paterson excommunicated from the Catholic Church.

I wouldn't count on it. Cardinal Law of Boston is sitting pretty at the Vatican despite his despicable handling of priests who engaged in perversive acts with young boys.

Unless you are gov. Blago in Illinois you are able to twist the arm of a lackey congressman to do your bidding.
