Japan Reeling from Stabbing Spree [and vehicular homicide]

Tokyo's Akihabara district, a popular shopping area for consumer electronics, was still in shock on Monday following a killing spree by a 25-year-old man who plowed a rented truck into an intersection full of pedestrians, then began stabbing bystanders at random. The rampage, which left seven dead and 10 injured, was another reminder of a violent side of Japan that is not often discussed.

Japan has one of the lowest crime rates in the developed world, yet the country still sees spasms of stunningly brutal, often random killings. The June 8 Akihabara massacre occurred exactly seven years after a former school janitor with a history of mental illness stabbed eight children to death and injured many others at their elementary school near Osaka. The nation has seen a spate of stabbings already this year, including a shopping-mall knife attack in March in which one was slain and seven were injured.

Yeah, and I am glad that Japan has also strict rental truck laws.....
Most likely, they will hang this guy if they already caught him.

We lived in Japan when the Osaka elementary school stabbings occurred. As I recall, it ended when a courageous teacher went after the attacker with a chair. He was wounded but subdued the attacker. I wonder how many of the eight children would have been saved had he been armed.

I demand fork control also. Those dastardly forks can be a scourge on humanity. We should demand that all utensils be banned. Also, I think we should ban hands and fingers, as these can be used as weapons. Ban everything!!!

I remember after 9/11, for at least a couple of years, whenever you flew and they served an in-flight meal, you got a metal fork and spoon in the utensil kit, but the knife was always plastic.

Apparently death by fork or spoon was not possible.
