Back Door Gun Control: Obama Backs Inter-American Arms Treaty That Has Ties To United Nations--
The Washington Post ^ | April 16, 2009 | Scott Wilson

MEXICO CITY, April 16 -- President Obama announced in a visit here today that he will push the U.S. Senate to ratify an inter-American arms trafficking treaty designed to curb the flow of guns and ammunition to drug cartels and other armed groups in the hemisphere. Obama made the announcement after meeting with Mexican President Felipe Calderón this afternoon. The meeting is the centerpiece of Obama's first visit to Mexico, whose government is engaged in a broad war against heavily armed drug cartels threatening the integrity of the state. "The Obama administration's commitment to seek ratification [of the treaty] is important because stemming the number of illegal firearms which flow into Latin America and the Caribbean is a high priority for the region and addresses a key hemispheric concern relating to people's personal security and well-being,"

When I searched for information about CIFTA, I found "THE REPORT OF THE CHAIR OF THE COMMITTEE ON HEMISPHERIC SECURITY ON THE INTER-AMERICAN CONVENTION AGAINST THE ILLICIT MANUFACTURING OF AND TRFFICKING IN FIREARMS, AMMUNITION, EXPLOSIVES AND OTHER RELATED MATERIALS (CIFTA)....if the United States ratifies this treaty, we could be involved with the United Nations regulating our gun control....at least that is what I thought I read. On page 10 of the treaty, I read: "BEARING IN MIND in the United Nations Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat, and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects and the Hemisphere toward implementation of the national, regional, and global components of the Programme of Action;..."

Another quote from the treaty reads p. 13, number 6: "To request the Secretariat pro tempore of the Consultative Committee of the CIFTA to participate actively in the United Nations Conference to review the progress made in implementation of the United Nations Programme of Action to prevent, combat, and eradicate the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons in all its aspects, ..."

Quote three, p. 13, number 7: "To request the General Secretariat continue its work with the United Nations Department for Disarmament Affairs (DDA),...to prepare and offer, specialized courses in the destruction of small arms, light weapons, and ammunition, and in stockpile management."

So I gather that if the U.S. Senate ratifies this treaty, the United States will be automatically be under United Nations Gun Contol Measures. I could be totally wrong, but that is how I am reading it. Please share your thoughts. Thanks. http://scm.oas.org/doc_public/ENGLISH/HIST_06/CP16317E04.doc http://www.oas.org/csh/english/firearms.asp

I’m going to have to read that one myself, though I wouldn’t put it past them. The moment I heard Hellary blaming the USA for Mexican Cartels having too many American made guns, I thought, What is she talking about???? You know what they want and they’re not hesitating in taking action either. Half the USA elected a Pro ‘United Nations’ President, what a shame.

this has to be approved by the house and senate. even with all the Dhimmms they can and will not have enough votes to approve this if many of these Red State Democrats want to be re-elected.

this is reminiscent of the Clinton and the Kyoto accords that were never ratified by congress.

I read an AP atory in essence blaming the US for providing Mexico with guns and then blaming US demand for drugs for providing comsumers for Mexico's drugs. How ridiculously biased could they be! Even if they believed the logic of consumers being at fault, then it should also apply to those wanting guns. Or conversely, if suppliers are at fault, then Mexico's drug runners are to blame.

The thing I hate most about liberals is their faulty logic. As an engineer and programmer, logic is king.

You want to see states secede???

Just pull a UN gun ban on the southern and western Red states.

I will move to the first state that secedes if that happens.

Everyone who is eligible should buy a gun and learn how to use it. Those who already own a gun should buy another one, and more ammunition. This will send a clear message to the Demo-Socialists, terrorists, and other crooks.

Indeed, I am a programmer as well and I cannot stand the faulty logic I encounter. (Like being told that I couldn’t take a weapon [training-sword, not technically a weapon] to our local tea-party because it was right next to a police station... I’m sorry, but if it’s not illegal then it must be legal, right? Nope, I got him to admit that it wasn’t illegal, but I didn’t push it... though now I wish I had.)

An interesting note though, is that I was refereed to a therapist (about emotional hardships upon returning from deployment), and he said that “things aren’t black and white”.

No, They [the world] are far more black-and-white, legal/illegal, good-and-evil than most give it credit for.

This is all so obvious: Obama and Congress have have decided the best way to "sell" gun control to a hypnotized American populace is to disguise it as really taking away guns from Mexican drug lords.

The media is doing its best to sell this lie.

The fact it, most Mexico has the strongest gun control laws possible, and most of its guns come from former Mexican Army soldiers who have been bribed by drug lords.

To claim their guns is a US problem is a fantasy to bizarre that it sounds like the whole strategy was dreamed up by someone on cocaine.

This is what they were doing in Europe. Using treaties to circumvent the voters.

They need to be stopped.

In a lot of areas, you can actually wear a gun on your hip. It’s the concealed gun that gets you in trouble. That being said, I wouldn’t wear a gun out in public sight.

The sword is close to the same thing. I’ll grant that you should be able to take it out there, but it would probably cause more problems than it was worth.

I think you did the right thing. If I were truly wanting something to protect myself out there, it would be a small firearm. It wouldn’t be a sword. And I’m sure you feel the same way. So in truth, taking the sword out there was merely something you wanted to do, more than something you felt you needed to do.

Wouldn’t you agree?

“.....Our so called constitution scholar has no clue......”
___________________________________________________________

What always strikes me is that people in the MSM and political circles hail someone like Hussien as a “constitutional scholar”. Well, just because one is called a constitutional scholar does not automatically imply that they agree with the Constitution! Zero and all the fools at the ACLU are proof of that.

From the treaty in the link I just posted,
Article I - (1)b — would prohibit ammo manufacture (including reloaders) without a federal license.
