Jonathan Yardley, 48, was told there had been a complaint about his remark and was asked if he was homophobic or had made a "hate comment".

He had been chairing aquarterly meeting arranged by West Midlands Police at which members of the public can discuss crime.

It started with a presentation with members of the audience given a handset to allow them to select answers to questions flashed up on a screen.

A police authority worker who was acting as presenter then told them: "Let's start with an easy question to get us going: Press A if you're male or B if you're female."

One member of the audience in Wolverhamtpon responded by asking: "What if you're transgendered?"

Mr Yardley, a quantity surveyor, who is married with a 13 year old daughter, said: "I quipped that you could press A and B together. There was much laughter."

Unbeknown to him there was a man dressed as a woman in the audience whose male partner had raised the question.

Mr Yardley, Wolverhampton city council's cabinet member for neighbourhoods and safer communities, said: "Several days later a complaint of homophobia was made. I was asked to go to the local police station, questioned for two hours by a sergeant and an inspector and let off with a warning.

Real-time British society is now indistinguishable from a rerun of Monty Python’s Flying Circus.

The retort was genuinely funny and not offensive.

Wit is one of the first casualties to political correctness.

Yep and I’d encourage our moderate brothers and sisters to consider it.

Interesting, commenting about “the transgendered” seems to imply discriminatory feelings toward homosexuals.

The linkage is telling.

The Cops had to crack up during the questioning. I know I would.

The whole of British society under this selective tyranny gives the appearance of a rubber band being stretched to the point where either the tension must be released or it will snap. If it snaps, there’s going to be a violent backlash against the perceived “bad guys” who have either assisted the said tyranny or enforced it. I have to wonder if that backlash is being orchestrated, as the offending tyrannies we’ve read about have been so outrageous as to appear as if taken from a comic book or as one Freeper suggested, a “Monty Python” skit. It’s almost unreal and guaranteed to eventually provoke a backlash.

Given that the answer could either be “A” or “B” it would have been interesting to know what guidance the police officer could have possibly given that would not have resulted in a complaint.

“Take your pick?” — complaint for sure.
“Don’t press either?” — complaint for sure.
“Your most recent gender?” — complaint for sure.
“Your original gender?” — complaint for sure.
“Our test doesn’t allow for Transsexuals?” — complaint and riot for sure.

There was nothing this officer could have done to avoid this. His attempt at humor was probably the best move in an unwinnable situation.

A warning for what? I dont think I would have gone down to the station.

Yes, but you're American, with (for now) the right to free speech. This happened in England, where it is a very serious crime to hurt the feelings of poofters or Muslim savages.

Unbelievable amounts of British police resources are now devoted to stamping out all vestiges of racial or gender based thoughtcrime-- though only amongst the indigenous population, of course. They have entire squads in the big cities that do nothing else, and every police force down to the tiniest village in the shires now has a commissar of political correctness.

These are, by and large, the kind of perpetually angry, resentful, suspicious women and minorities who have butt-wipe degrees in victim studies and grievance mongering from dodgy colleges, are useless at real police work, and are generally unemployable otherwise. Every real bobby, even the chiefs, lives in daily terror of their inquisition.

"There was nothing this officer could have done to avoid this."

I'm developing a more defined understanding of personal liberty and freedom, the right to protect them, and which caliber is best to accomplish the task.

It can and will happen here. The America of today will be unrecognizable ten years from now. Heck, maybe even ten months from now.

“hurt the feelings of poofters or Muslim savages”

I assume you’re British (English, surely). I hope there are millions of Britons in the U.K. who think exactly the way you do, that British society will survive, despite its homegrown Gestapo and their allies among the fags and Muslims.

We Yanks throw up our hands at videos of Paki mobs (”Behead Those Who Say Islam is Violent!!”), surveillance cameras everywhere (telescreens in every home?), and a generally disarmed British citizenry helpless against home invasions.

Sometimes I have to sing “There’ll Always Be an England” just to brace up a bit.

Maybe all those vids are filmed in London only?
