Three big retailers are expected to back an alternative proposal next week on a hotly contested bill that would make it easier to unionize workplaces, a move some experts said would bolster the legislation's chance of passage.
Costco Wholesale Corp., Starbucks Corp. and Whole Foods Market Inc. are supporting the alternative proposal, according to someone familiar with the effort. Ray Krupin, a management labor lawyer in Washington said the most likely compromise would allow employees to unionize if 70% of them sign union-authorization cards, as opposed to 50% as currently proposed in the Employee Free Choice Act.

Obama’s stimulus package is the most ineffiecient and expensive way to create jobs which are only temporary in nature. Absolutely a stupid way to stimulate. Why not create real private sector jobs whose existance does not depend upon an endless supply of government money which does not exist.

No more compromises. There is a firm process in place... cards then a secret vote... keep it that way.
I’ve been on both sides of the fence and trust me, more damage will be done than you can imagine with the proposed or the counter proposed.
Simply, there is no reason to change this AT ALL except for the Ozero’s payback for the union support... not one iota of any other reason exists.
They got involved when the NLRB was created - involved in union/management relations. The NLRA doesn’t govern non-union settings, but almost all of those still have to deal with tons of labor law and excessive regs - i.e., WARN, ADEA, ADA, HIPAA, FLSA, OSHA, blah, blah, blah....
I can totally understand why these companies would be desperate to find a “compromise” that would keep their companies non-union. But you don’t compromise when you are right and they are wrong, dead wrong, morally wrong. You don’t concede ground in a fight. There is a huge difference between 70% of 1000 employees and 70% of 10 employees. Small shops are going to be very badly hurt by card check, and it doesn’t help Starbucks or Costco to have millions more people out of work. We need to step up our game in opposition so the House knows they better not vote yes on one more costly, job killing, energy taxing, extortionist agenda bill. Did you see how many Republicans voted for the completely unconstitutional bonus tax? Most of these people are lawyers and they voted yes anyway. Pitchforks should be pointed at Washington, not AIG.

They will deserve the unions they get. This is a really dumb move for corp america. What are they goind to do..supply private security and CC for their employees who refuse to sign?
Look who found out unions make it harder to compete. So much for restatement of the obvious.
Well most of the secret ballot votes turn down unions and the secret ballot is suppose to protect the workers from both sides of the process. I don’t think folks will be very happy with this as it get closer to becoming a reality especially in Right to work states.

If the leftists are smart (and they are) they should take this deal. They can always get the % lower later. Once the law is in place, it will never go away.
Well your right but this ass wipe has only been in office 60 or so days. The reality of a one party state is just dawning on people. The more they talk to more pissed people are getting. I think the Democrats (some anyway, and maybe enough to matter) are starting to hear rumblings from home. Democrats have always been duplicitous but now the smart one are starting to realize that unlike in the past they have true believers running the show and it could very well cause them to lose power and if things continue at the current speed they might lose in a very big way.
