Mexico City, Mexico, March 16, 2009 (CNA) -- The legislature of the Mexican state of Puebla has approved a change to the states constitution granting protection to human life from conception to natural death. The move is intended to ward off efforts to legalize abortion throughout the country.
The change, led by the National Action Party (PAN), was approved by 29 votes out of 41, including votes by members of the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), despite a commission of PRI federal lawmakers being sent to Puebla to try to stop the measure.
The Puebla state legislature decided to modify Article 26 of the state Constitution, obliging the state to protect human life from conception to natural death.
The leader of the left-leaning Party of the Democratic Revolution in Puebla, Irma Ramos Galindo, announced that the constitutionality of the measure would be challenged before the Mexican Supreme Court.
Puebla became the fifth of Mexicos 31 states to move to protect life in the wake of the legalization of abortion in Mexico City and a Supreme Court decision finding the action did not violate the federal constitution.

Wow I had no idea they were that civilized down there
Out of the morass of Drug murders comes this? I have to agree with what they are doing for sure, I am simply surprised given their apparent lack of respect for adult human life.
OH yeah. Abortion is illegal in Mexico. Other countries are trying to send money there for abortion and to change the law. Thank God the states are pre emptively striking. I wish we could add that to the FL constitution!! Viva Mexico- Get your drug lords in order and your people will stay there and thrive.
Use of the term “natural death” seems to imply that just being “brain dead” is not enough to be declared legally dead. If so, it’s a prudent step in the right direction.
WOW...I’m impressed.
This is not unexpected. The majority of Mexicans I know are honest, conservative and devout Catholics. Many have fled Mexico to get away from liberal, socialist, corrupt governments and lawlessness.
