Meghan McCain, daughter of John, has written a column critical of Ann Coulter. Tonight she appeared on Rachel Maddows show to discuss the column and her efforts to push the Republican party in a more moderate direction.
I dont want to be too critical of Meghan. Shes 24, seems sincere and likable, and has the moxie to put herself out there. So let me offer a constructive suggestion: instead of telling us what you dont like about Republicans, tell us what you do. Meghan did say that she loves the Republican party. But why? If Republicans are going to listen to her message of moderation, theyre going to have be convinced that she shares most of their core principles.
Listening to her tonight on Maddow, and reading her anti-Ann column, the only Republican-y positions I heard were that Meghan is: opposed to pork, is pro-military and supported the war in Iraq and the surge. But other than that, she doesnt seem to share much with most Republicans. For example, we also learned that Meghan:

Actually the song was "Backstabbers", it referenced the lyrics from the song Smiling Faces, but that was "The Undisputed Truth."
I know my 70s Soul.
She’s probably a nice kid, but my advice is to go DO something with her life, then maybe she will have something worthwhile to say.
Ok thank you for the correction.
Actually backstabbers is more appropriate in politics.
Smile and stab. Number one in the political play book.
Meghan appears to be upset with mean ol conservatives because they don’t push PR hype that supports things like kissing cute little sea kittens and Republicans don’t try to promote social and fiscal irresponsibility effectively, or promise enough goodies that are impossible to provide or damaging to society, and Republicans don’t self righteously point fingers and call others names nearly enough to suit Meghan, so that’s proof that Republicans must be ashamed of something.
Has anyone taken STFU yet?
In about the same way that a chimp holding a loaded pistol would.
She needs to stick to things she understands a little better like designer handbags.
She proved to be an unbelievable idiot during the campaign and now she’s picking up where she left off.
That would imply a difference in beliefs from her father. Rather, she’s the new McCain, same as the old McCain.
Mark Finkelstein makes the telling point that apparently Meghan McCain only sees fit to criticize Republicans and has nothing negative to say about the current Democrat extremism. This indicates that either she is not at all well informed and hasn’t given her positions much thought or that she is probably a self serving hypocrite.
It’s great to see a young woman Republican who is willing to stand against the groupthink and admit she is not an extremist.
Yea Meg!
Wow....her father is an R pol all his life and an R Senator and she voted for Kerry? Apparently she shares very few values with Rs.
She has no business speaking for Republicans. It’s just like the press to find someone like that to talk for all of us, isn’t it?
I'd suggest that if she doesn't like explaining to her friends some of the "incendiary" remarks by some in the GOP, she might need to just become a Democrat, and then she can be what they expect her to be.
Problem solved!
Apparently some people who call themselves Republicans voted for numb nuts like Gigolo Lurch or the 0bamunist disaster. Hard to figure.
Why on earth is this 24 year old anyone who’s opinion i would be even REMOTELY interested in?
Meghan doesn't know what she's talking about. It's clear she's given it little or no thought.
I'd be embarrassed to make those comments in a college classroom let alone on TV before a national audience.
It sounds like she's "finding her way" (on the national stage) within the Republican party, but she really needs to understand even basic Econ 101 if she's going to continue to do appearances like this.
HELLO, Meghan...what about Sarah Palin?
Yeah, I noticed that as well. What a glaring omission!
Like Rush says:
“I’m still looking for the book titled: “’Great American Moderates.’”
