You’re probably right about Mario being a lib, but I think he’s a culinary genius. I loved Molto Mario when he mixed cooking food with providing information. This current show reminds me of a dressed-up Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. I guess I’m kinda tired of watching other people travel and eat and throw the bull, LOL. Anthony Bourdain had talked about possibly doing a show with Mario. Now that would be fun!
Actually, in this case, I don’t see Gwynneth in the wrong. She’s putting out (apparently) valid information, not proselytising for some whacko religion, offering standard nutrition and exercise tips, and speaking with a firm voice that portrays authority.
Hell, when I consult, I’ll bet it can seem mighty demeaning when I show my client just how much more I know in my field of expertise than they do - despite the fact that my expertise is the reason why my clients hire me. /sarc
The Times is probably bothered by the aspect of Gywnnie doing this in a down economy, it would fit their socialist narrative.
Oh yeah, I'd definitely watch, although Bourdain is a humongous lib. I've heard him take cheap shots at Dubya many times. I'm always screaming at the tube... "Shut up and cook, you disgusting junkie! Stupid high school f'n dropout! You've got nothing to teach me except a few tricks with a spatula! Grrrr..."

LOL, I agree. Bourdain is REAL ROUGH around the edges, and when I watch him I can just smell the smoke on him, LOL. He and Mario were together on one of Bourdain’s shows when he was in New Jersey, I think. Funny stuff.
I saw that show! Loved it. I’m really hooked on foodie shows. They’ve kicked my own cooking up “notches unknown to mankind!” And I’m grateful for it. Haven’t been to many five-star restaurants though. A few. My God were they heavenly! Didn’t know food could taste that good. But we can’t afford to do that very often. So it’s stay at home, watch the shows, buy the books, and try to improve in the kitchen. And it’s working!
Good for you! Me, too...watching those shows got me more interested in technique, why we do what we do when we cook, stuff like that. I LOVE ALTON BROWN for that reason.
Mario and Lidia Bastianich and Son are really raking it in these days with the restaurants and the wine. Lucky them!
I went nuts several years ago and bought tons of classic cookbooks. Which would be great if I cooked all the time. Like, oh, say, 12 times a day, lol. Maybe then I could catch up. Here's one I've been meaning to dust off, but haven't yet. Just finished Bittman's How to Cook Anything last week. It collected dust here for a longest time. Man, there are some great looking recipes in that book. I like simple and most of his are.
No sympathy for him there... His 911 call makes him sound NOT like the guy you'd want to rescue you! "She's at the bottom of the pool!! HELP! HELP!" Sir, go in and get her" "You mean get her out of the pool? Dive down there? Get all wet??" (OK I am exaggerating but it kinds sounds like that)
To top it off, a few days after this drowning, I happened to see him in a deli on Pico early one morning, disheveled, with a lovely brunette (who became his girlfriend or wife), and they did not look like they were "mourning" much, shall we say.
