I believe you are correct. In the salad days of not just FR but the net as well there was a LOT of enthusiasm.

Remember the early FReeps? Demonstrating against x42? Ellian Gonzalas?

I've ALWAYS maintained that the Ride of Ted Tanner and Thunder during the impeachment was a benchmark. People used the net to follow and support the ride. The final gallop into DC was even netcast in a primitive way.

That event, along with many others of course, showed the power of us being able to link and communicate. Now we take it for granted. We've become lazy.

Now we have to get out and DO things again, Demonstrate, run for office or find and actively support candidates we want. Of course you and Don know what that sometimes entails...sigh.

Another factor is that many of the people who had the passion and energy to organize these things are no longer Freepers. Some of them walked away, and others were banned. A few more walked away after others were banned. Those people may still have a vision for change and the desire to act for change, but disagreements drove them from us and us from them. We aren't as unified as we were fifteen years ago.
