WASHINGTON - - New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who argues her pro-gun stance aims to protect hunters' rights and the Second Amendment, last week said she and her husband, Jonathan, keep two rifles under their bed to protect their upstate home.
Gillibrand said neither she nor her husband is a hunter, and in a general discussion of gun control said, "If I want to protect my family, if I want to have a weapon in the home, that should be my right."
The mother of two young children has taken "gun safety procedures to ensure family safety," an aide later said, but declined to say what steps.
Gillibrand's guns are rifles, her chief of staff Jess Fassler said in an e-mail, and she won one of them in a raffle at a county fair while campaigning. He said New York does not require anyone to register rifles.

As a future new yorker (at least for a while), I will change registration so I can vote for her in the primary and become a “reagan democrat” to polls. If I’m going to sin, I’m going to pick the sin that lets me keep my gun.
Which means she is more equal than you.
Same for pistols, handy, no doubt, but likely to go through more walls than intended.
Shotgun, short barrel.
I'll never forget the article I read about home defense talking about this, "...besides, when the intruder hears the distinctive sound of a shotgun round being chambered, they are now worried about surviving the situation." I don't have to be a marksman, I just have to be in the general area...........
I've owned several shotguns over the years, non modified of course. I can fire off 6 rounds in under two seconds, that...is a load of lead coming your way. Won't go into the shell load but man, you can get wicked with a 'gage. The intended weapon is a Mossberg, designed for this purpose.
Still intend to buy a hand gun but for right now, the 'gage is within reach at night.....
just my .05 (inflation adjusted) worth...
She’s very attractive and her family is very attractive as well. Sooo much nicer looking (and probably nicer anyway) than our previous senator, whose name I shall not mention.
In the past she’s received the NRA’s endorsement and a 100% approval rating. However, she’s given some signs recently of becoming less friendly. She’s gonna get pressure on this issue now like she’s never seen before. I hope this is a real core belief for her, it shouldn’t take long to tell.
There’s a gun within reach no matter what part of my house I’m in.
1) armrest compartment of my recliner.
2) desk drawer in office.
3) headboard compartment in bedroom. Closet holds the shotguns and rifles.
4) If I’m caught in the bathroom the perps really gonna catch $hit. LOL!
Paranoid? No, just prepared.
can I git me a huntin’ license here?
It depends. Has she used such phrases as “sensible gun laws” lately?
That won’t do much good if a prowler busts in while you’re asleep and you did not notice it in time. The best home self defense system will also include a dog who can wake you up if someone is prowling outside.

After meeting with a gun victim's parents in Brooklyn last week Gillibrand said she would work for after-school programs as an alternative to gangs and to write "the first anti-trafficking bill" to halt the flow of illegal guns into New York.
This can mean nothing other than mandatory registration and limits on gun purchases.
I got mine and he's a real trooper.
I wouldn't call him a security system but he is one hell of an alarm system.
Keeps the guns under the bed? Takes too long to get to them if you need them. I got mine within arms reach. And the heavier weapons close too.
It does if you accept the thesis that the Senator is a low rent political whore.
My FIL....showers with a gun.
