I have a wonderful book my dad recieved on his deathbed in 1978. It is called Lincoln, The Prairie Years and The War Years written by Carl Sandburg. It is suggested reading for all.

I shall check with the Auckland University library and have a read. It sounds interesting...

It is very good and actually does away with the modern prejudices of our time.

Read it and watch the Obama blueprint. (I kid you not)

The Auckland University library is pretty good: if the book is available in NZ chances are good that it will be there.

Cheers for the recommendation!

It’s quite a book and I have it in my lap now. Carl Sandburg is one of the most accomplished writers of the time. I opened it and recognized half the names that signed it. What a tribute....

Ah good, the old “you-don’t-know-what-you’re-talking-about” argument — the last preserve of the dullard and the pig-ignorant. And with a gratuitous *swear* for good measure.

As to whether or not I “know sh*t” about America or Lincoln, how would you know?

I've read your posts.

And now you’re telling a naughty fib. I haven’t made “posts” on the subject of Lincoln before: this would have been my first and only.

Anyrate, I’ve nothing further to say to you.

I suspect Lincoln will get his Google day on the official Presidents' Day holiday Monday along with George Washington.

Turns out, Presidents Day to Google is just another Monday.

Until they decide to honor Clinton, Carter and Obama. I understand some do not like Lincoln on both ends of the spectrum, but Washington?! Nobody with the least amount of historical perspective could fail to revere Washington for what he did.
