Iraqis held their most peaceful election since the fall of Saddam Hussein on Saturday, voting for provincial councils without a single major attack in a poll that demonstrated the country's dramatic security gains.

U.S. President Barack Obama hailed the poll as an important step toward Iraqis taking responsibility for their future. "I congratulate the people of Iraq on holding significant provincial elections today," he said in a statement.

"The purple fingers have returned to build Iraq," Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said after the polls closed, referring to the indelible ink stains on index fingers that show voters have cast their ballots.

There was something of a holiday atmosphere in many parts of the country. In normally traffic-choked Baghdad, children took advantage of a ban on cars to play soccer in the streets.

Wow!

good job Obama.

That’s amazing how you miraculously brought democracy to Iraq.

What is your secret to foreign affairs prowess?

ABC NEws noticed. For the first time in 6 years they actually reported that Iraq is “stabilized”.

Not one word of thanks to our troops that have died or had their bodies and families ravaged to make this happen.

Not one word about how our country has sacrificed it’s treasure and blood to free millions and set the course of democracy in the region.

Not one word of credit given to President Bush and his administrating for staying the course that has allowed for the purple ink of freedom.

Not one word of how this VICTORY was made possible by the United States of America.

Not one word...........

I hate this craven lickspittle, and I want him to fail in every way possible.

Obama grasping for the laurels of our Military, Bush and the Iraqi people. He is a callous smarmy villain who bragged constantly about how he would have kept Saddam in power.
Democraps make me sick.

Me too. For the first time in my adult life, I am ashamed of my country.

Obama is the critic that now assumes the stage of a play that he called a fools play and he has the nerve to applaud?

The hypocrisy on display by the Democrats is boundless. Pravda paints the world the way Obama says it is.

Our country is dying.

" "The purple fingers have returned"

Too bad they haven't been used in the USA....multi-voters shuttled from Precinct to Precinct, plus the use of illegal criminal aliens as voters, assure the socialists/communists winning regularly from now for the forseeable future.

ACORN has control of ALL the elections, now.

This is not 0bama's doing. The credit goes solely to President Bush, the American and coalition troops, and the Iraqi people. Credit where credit is due!

Of course he couldn't give credit to the people that have made (what is short of a miracle) happen. That would turn his words about Iraq into lies.

I thank our military, their families, President Bush and the Iraqis that have stayed the course.

And, Barry, you may want to take a closer look at this situation. Perhaps you could use the lesson in integrity.

“President Obama, I knew Abe Lincoln and you’re no Abe Lincoln.” Ireally resent Obama’s invoking the memory of Lincoln, as if anything Obama has ever done or will ever do will result in freedom for millions of people.

“One of them was elderly Fadhel al-Shimary, who had walked three km (two miles) to vote in Baghdad’s Palestine Street, stopping every 50 meters to rest in a chair carried by his son.

“I will wait here until the night. I must vote before I die,” he said. “Maybe they are trying to steal my vote. But I will not allow it. I am still alive. I am not dead yet.””

I bet this guy appreciates what Bush did!

Not one word of how this VICTORY was made possible by the United States of America.

And yet, the Iraqis are saying it. I heard a lot of people say "Thank you, America!" on Saturday and yesterday.

But I'm sure the media has already reported that...right? ;-)
