“Al Qaeda IED cell member properly detained at Gitmo, judge finds”
By THOMAS JOSCELYN
October 20, 2010

SNIPPET: “In an order released on Tuesday, DC District Judge Richard Leon rejected a petition for a writ of habeas corpus filed by an Afghan detained at Guantanamo named Obaydullah (or Obaidullah).

Obaydullah was transported to Guantanamo in October 2002 after US intelligence officials concluded that his role in an al Qaeda improvised explosive device (IED) cell operating in southern Afghanistan warranted detention. Months earlier, on July 21, 2002, US forces had raided Obaidullah’s home after receiving intelligence indicating that he was storing land mines.

In his ruling, Judge Leon described what US forces found. In addition to “a stash of 23 anti-tank mines buried in an outdoor pit close” to Obaydullah’s home, the Americans “secured from his person a notebook containing certain diagrams that appeared to be wiring designs for building lethal” IEDs. In addition, Obaydullah “was storing an automobile that contained dried blood and Taliban propaganda, and that had been used by him and another to ferry to a local hospital certain bomb cell members who had been injured in an accidental explosion.”

The government also alleged that Obaydullah has “repeatedly given false and implausible explanations regarding his knowledge of, and involvement with, these explosives, this notebook, and this automobile.” Judge Leon agreed with the government, finding that Obaydullah’s various prevarications were “inconsistent and inherently ridiculous” and also “defie[d] both common sense and reality.”

Judge Leon’s ruling is the third instance in recent months in which a DC district judge has found a Guantanamo detainee’s implausible story to be evidence of guilt.”

LONG WAR JOURNAL.org: "GUANTANAMO RECIDIVISM RATE CLIMBS HIGHER" by Thomas Joscelyn (SNIPPET: "During a joint hearing of the Senate and House intelligence committees yesterday, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper testified that the recidivism rate for former Guantanamo detainees has risen to an estimated 27 percent. The total number of "confirmed" and "suspected" recidivists, according to Clapper, is now 161.") (September 14, 2011)

OBAMA: SURE, GITMO DETAINEES COULD ATTACK US
NY Post ^ | February 2, 2009 | CLEMENTE LISI

Doh! Obama’s just lucky that it’s everyone else who has to pay for his mistakes.

Obama directed Gates on Jan. 20 to pause legal proceedings involving alleged terrorists being held and tried there, pending further guidance from the White House. The president directed the secretary, who then directed the Office of Military Commissions, to cease referring any new cases through the military-commissions process at Guantanamo and to request 120-day continuances on all ongoing active cases there.

I wonder if that was 7 hours or less into Inaugeration Day that Obama moved to run to the rescue of al Qaeda Gitmo prisoners, shouting "I got your back," no doubt.

Adding yet another recidivist Gitmo detainee to the catch and release to fight and kill again list:

Benghazi’s very own, bin Qumu.

His lawyers must be proud.

Check it out...
al Ajni’s lawyer was Thomas Wilner, a friend of Robert Mueller who’s going after Trump.

In 2008, Abdullah Saleh al-Ajmi, who had been unleashed from Guantanamo Bay, carried out a suicide bombing in Iraq. Al-Ajmi had been represented by Thomas Wilner who was being paid by the Kuwaiti government.
Wilner was a pal of Robert Mueller. And when the families were having dinner together, Mueller got up and said, “I want to toast Tom Wilner. He’s doing just what an American lawyer should do.”
“I don’t know what he was doing from inside the government. I’d like to find out,” Wilner mused.
We know some of what Mueller was doing. The same official who paved the way for raiding the president’s lawyer, who illegally seized material from the Trump transition team and whose case is based in no small part on illegal eavesdropping, fought alongside Comey against surveilling terrorists. Materials involving the Muslim Brotherhood were purged. Toward the dawn of the second Obama term, Mueller met with CAIR and other Islamist groups and a green curtain fell over national security.———
