He knew he owed the taxes.
Yes, he did. From the WSJ,
Geithner's Tax History Muddles Confirmation
In, 2006, he was audited by the IRS for fiscal years 2003 and 2004. He owed taxes and interest totalling $17,230. The IRS waived the related penalties.
The Obama transition team found he didn't pay these SAME taxes from 2001 and 2002. So Geithner pays the taxes and interest due then, totalling $25,970.
Obama and Geithner both try to say it was a simple mistake, but Senate Finance Republicans produced the documentation that "employees are
repeatedly told they are responsible for paying their payroll taxes".
So Geithner knew he had a problem in 2006, but didn't pay back taxes the IRS hadn't picked up on because he was probably relying on the IRS statute of tax limitations.
But wait, he had more problems with his taxes. He also claimed "his child's time at overnight camps in 2001, 2004 and 2005 to calculate dependent-care tax deductions. Sleepaway camps don't qualify."
"Amended tax returns that Mr. Geithner filed recently include $4,334 in additional taxes, and $1,232 in interest for infractions, such as an early-withdrawal penalty from a retirement plan, an improper small-business deduction, a charitable-contribution deduction for ineligible items, and the expensing of utility costs that went for personal use."
And then there's that little problem about hiring an immigrant whose work-authorization papers had expired.
He should be thrown under the bus, post-haste!
What a slime ball, aka, a democrat! Wonder why the IRS didn't put a tax lien on him, or garnishee his wages? And this guy is the bestest and brightest Omassiah could come up with. What a joke.
