A revised version of the Mises Institute's "Are You an Austrian?" econ quiz is now online.

Some people will be a bit surprised when they see their score.

I'd be curious as to how certain well-known members of the political nomenklatura would come out -- theoretically, of course, since we all know they would refuse to take it.

Oh, who is a slave? We are so freeeee !!!!! Except the money we earn is Federal Reserve Notes which are a debt based currency, and we pay 40% income tax, and our kids are going to be slaves to the heirs of JP Morgan to pay off the bonds that Bush, Greenspan, Bernacke, et. al. are floating.... they clip coupons to pay the fees at the polo grounds, your kids work 50 hours a week at Target... whatever.

FReepers need to wake up.

Why is it that most American blacks — who, in view of their history, should be very much against slavery — make political choices which favor a servile status under an all-powerful but bumbling “massa” state? A dependent attitude is the enemy of liberty.

American Whites who agree to the existence of the Federal Reserve Bank are just as much agreeing to bondage as any welfare recipient. Yet we go around crowing about "freedom" and "liberty". It's a sick joke.

***Unfortunately NO one in Washington, not even our so- called conservative elected leaders, has shown any beliefs in our economic freedom.***

Well there is this one guy... but obviously he’s a kook.

So true.

Although today I had a really good conversation with a more liberal friend of mine and I think a lot of my points got across.

A few months ago the debt was $10 trillion. Now with all the bailouts promised we’re looking at another $7 trillion.

The problems are that even “Keynsians and Supply Siders (the latter of which can be allied with conservatives in certiain goals but are NOT)” are seen as “conservative”- A true economic conservative not only agrees with Friedman on free-markets and free-trade (true free trade), but also is partial to the Austrian School of Economics and free-banking!

On another thread, an idiot writer in Missouri argues the average person doesn’t have the capacity to know the difference between self defense and homicide. She argues it should be left to law enforcement to provide for our defense.

RE :”Well there is this one guy... but obviously he’s a kook”

Before the election this was considered heresy but the Republican party had to lose election big for this reason. This trend by Republicans would get worse if McCain had won with a democrat congress. GWB refused to veto republican spending bills and was happy as long as he got his spending. Then in 2007 it got worse as he decided it was his job to “get things done” and “do big things”. Add the media prompting, democrats attacks, GWB sinking legacy and you end up with a president that will give in on ‘anything’ to get continued Iraq war funding, and seems to think he can ‘buy’ his failed legacy with borrowed money.

We can only hope that republicans double loss stirs a revival like in 1993. See:

The Why We Should Take a Solutions Approach to the Crisis and Look at Some Things Differently

From writing: The 2008 election features two candidates likely to make the current problems worse. Ironically, Barack Obama, whose policies would likely prove even more disastrous than McCain’s, probably represents the lesser of the two evils. This is because Obama is perceived to be the candidate of big government, while McCain has wrapped himself in the false trappings of small government. In the unlikely event McCain wins, he will be the Herbert Hoover of the modern era, completely discrediting capitalism in the minds of the electorate and setting the stage for a disastrous ideological counterreaction in the election that follows. If Obama wins, however, while the economy will fare even worse, it will at least be clear that big government is to blame. By the end of Obama’s term, the voters will have had such a bellyful of noxious government solutions that the mere thought of any more will put them squarely at the wheel of the porcelain bus. In such an environment, a Ron Paul type of Republican, dismissed as unelectable à la Ronald Reagan in 1976, may actually be in a position to capture the White House in 2012 and finish the job Ronald Reagan started.

I don't buy into the collective guilt and responsibility trip that many people do. I am no more responsible for the crimes of my ancestors or the crimes of members of my ethnic group than I am of any crimes you may have committed. Our children owe the debt only if they take it upon themselves to pay it.

This debt was incurred by those in power, not us. Yes some of us were foolish enough to vote the garbage in, but eventually history corrects itself and the wealthy oligarchy that has just pulled off the 8 trillion dollar theft. The same oligarchy that donates twice as much to democrats as to republicans because they view them as the rear guard protecting their elite interest and keeping entrepreneurs and the middle class at bay from joining their club. Their day will come, if not tomorrow then next week, they will pay as all elites do by hanging, loss of property and wealth or both. The lucky few will escape with their lives but little else. You see this is a recurring repeat of that same episode on TV called history, the plot remains the same, the dialog and the actors change but the climax is always the same.
