Obama's inaugural choice sparks outrage

(CNN) -- Prominent liberal groups and gay rights proponents criticized President-elect Barack Obama Wednesday for choosing evangelical pastor Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at the presidential inauguration next month.

Warren, one of the most influential religious leaders in the nation, has championed issues such as a reduction of global poverty, human rights abuses and the AIDS epidemic.

But the founder of the Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, has also adhered to socially conservative stances -- including his opposition to gay marriage and abortion rights that puts him at odds with many in the Democratic Party, especially the party's most liberal wing.

"[It's] shrewd politics, but if anyone is under any illusion that Obama is interested in advancing gay equality, they should probably sober up now," Andrew Sullivan wrote on the Atlantic Web site Wednesday.

People for the American Way President Kathryn Kolbert told CNN she is "deeply disappointed" with the choice of Warren and said the powerful platform at the inauguration should instead have been given to someone who has "consistent mainstream American values."

More proof that Obama has no core values. He just does whatever will get him votes and money.

Gays won’t desert him over this and he can claim he was “open.”

This is Obama voting “present’ again.

I’m no Warren fan, but glad that an Evangelical is asking God’s blessing’s on our country.

I’ve already seen demonstrations against Obama in Keene NH. The Left is feeling betrayed.

How ironic that a bunch of treasonous, seditious, anti-American misfits should feel “betrayed”.

Tell ya what -

most of us are none too happy with Rick Warren, a self proclaimed evangelical,

giving the invocation for the inauguration of a pro-infanticide president.

“consistent mainstream American values.”

Conservatives realy really really need to speak up and get out there and make it very very very clear that the liberal agenda is NOT mainstream American values. We have shrunk back and gave them the inch they needed to take a mile.

Reflecting on my old cheer leader days, "Push em back! Shove em back! Waaaaayyyyy Back!" =P

Mr. O isn’t going to fight gay marriage, abortion or anything else Mr. Warren is against.

This is just for appearance. Something in which Mr. Obama excels.

Obama only needed the left to win the nomination and the election.

Obama doesn’t give a rip about core principles, he only wants the power and to make sure he gets re-elected in 2012.

To do that he knows he has to convince just half of voting America that he isn’t any worse than Clinton or Bush.

So we have gone from 8 years of Clinton in which CLinton was a phony and just tried to be all things to all people to 8 years of Bush who told the people who he was and what they would get and never strayed from that to another 8 years of a phony named Obama.

It isn’t very Christian-like not to be forgiving and to never give up trying to convince others the Christian mantra is best no matter how bad of sinners they are.

Your post is kind of phony. Are you?

As for phony, that simply makes no sense.
