Muslim prayer rooms should be opened in Catholic schools, say church leaders
Daily Mail ^ | 02nd December 2008 | Simon Caldwell

Muslim prayer rooms should be opened in every Roman Catholic school, church leaders have said.

The Catholic bishops of England and Wales also want facilities in schools for Islamic pre-prayer washing rituals.

The demands go way beyond legal requirements on catering for religious minorities.

But the bishops - who acknowledge 30 per cent of pupils at their schools hold a non-Christian faith - want to answer critics who say religious schools sow division.

The recommendations were made in a document, Catholic Schools, Children of Other Faiths and Community Cohesion. 'If practicable, a room (or rooms) might be made available for the use of pupils and staff from other faiths for prayer,' the bishops said.

'Existing toilet facilities might be adapted to accommodate individual ritual cleansing which is sometimes part of religious lifestyle and worship.

'If such space is not available on a permanent or regular basis, extra efforts might be made to address such need for major religious festivals.'

The Islamic cleansing ritual, called 'Wudhu', is carried out by Muslims before they pray.

Islam teaches that Muslims are unfit for prayer if they have not performed Wudhu after breaking wind or using the toilet.

Wudhu involves washing the face, hands, arms and feet three times each, gargling the mouth three times and washing the neck and inside the nose and ears. Some Muslims also wash their private parts.Catholic schools would need to install bidets, foot spas and hoses to facilitate such extensive cleansing rituals, Muslims say.

Daphne McLeod, a former Catholic head teacher from south London, said it would be 'terribly expensive' for the country's 2,300 Catholic primary and secondary schools to provide ritual cleansing facilities.

So what if you break wind during a prayer? (I have often wondered about that while looking at the mass prayer pictures)

I am so glad I took my family to see it before The Capitulation.

I think they should have Muslim prayer rooms in Catholic schools. They should start building them right after McDonald’s gets a victualler’s license to start selling bacon cheese burgers in Mecca.

Too much information...

Why not? Christendoms’ greatest cathedral, the Hagia Sophia, is now a mosque so why not convert Catholic schools into madrassahs?

How about starting a Jewish Temple inside a Mosque.

Then you get exactly what you deserve London/UK.

"Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.".......God.

Christians and Muslims do not worship the same god.

You can bet Muslims would not think of allowing a prayer room for Chrisians.

Cracked me up with that one.

Wonder if there’s a scramble for the front row.

The Catholic bishops of England and Wales ... should be removed from his position for requesting such a thing.

Yeah. . .along those lines I always wondered about a religion where you pray with your butt in the air and in the face of the guy behind you. . . but then again, given the sexual repression and homosexuality of that cult, perhaps it makes sense after all.

I would venture to guess that there are not enough Catholics going to Muslim schools for there to even be a demand for their own prayer rooms. This is probably the case for most other religions also. I really doubt that there is much demand for non-Muslim prayer rooms in any Muslim schools.

You make a great point that I was trying to make in my post.

You cannot be a Christian church or religious facility at all if you allow worship of other religions.

Why don’t the Catholic schools just start letting Satanists have Black Mass. I mean we wouldn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings or anything.

So what if you break wind during a prayer?

According to islamic tradition, if you feel a gastrointestinal burst coming on, you must immediately turn about and point your ass towards Mecca before the ill wind parts your cheeks.

Hagia Sohia is neither a Church or Mosque at this time. It’s a museum now.

Muslims are allowed to attend Christian churches if there is no mosque convenient. And vice versa I suppose. Can’t do all the rituals of course.
