Fitzgerald said in his news conference that they did this early in the morning to avoid a media circus and to avoid waking his children. His wife was awake. The FBI called his home, woke him up and said that they had a warrant for his arrest and there were two FBI agents waiting for him outside and he should go let them in. Blago asked the agent if this was a joke. Once told that this wasn’t, he was arrested without incident.

Now what I want to know is: What happened to his State Police bodyguards? Does the FBI call them ahead of time? Show up and flash badges and tell them to stand down? That’s a lot of guns at 6 AM in Ravenswood...

My guess is that the head of that ISP detail was on the phone at the same time talking to his commandant who had just been briefed by the FBI (woke him up, too, no doubt)

They were way too nice. They shoulda broken down the door, cuffed him and shoved him into a cruiser, Dirty Harry-style.
