Here's a politician, Damian Green, who does exactly what a good, conscientious Opposition politician should do... blow holes in the government's policy.

Thanks to the genius of the anti-terror legislation brought in to "protect" democracy, he's arrested for doing it!

This is where New Labour, the party set up by Tony Blair, has always been headed. Systematic erosion of civil liberty. Protests outside Parliament are banned. Thoughtcrime is banned. And now, even MPs doing the job they are ELECTED to do, are being arrested for doing it.

How sad - the British tradition of freedom of speech has been destroyed in little more than a decade, by its own government, thanks to the abuse of legislation brought in by Blair and co in the wake of 9/11 to "preserve" democracy and "protect" freedom of speech.

We need to take a good hard look at the U.S.A. anti-terror laws. There's no point having these rules to protect liberty if they're providing any government, present or future, with an ideal tool to subvert it.

I have feared that the Patriot Act will be abused by people like Obama for a while now.

The Patriot Act is a good idea if you have a decent leader to trust. But having the law on the books is a bad thing when it’s not someone you can trust.

Guess what?

Britain isn’t a dictatorship, the country is just outright about dead.

Mr. Green is a loyal Briton and a patriot.

The people persecuting him are a bunch of condescending, liberal-minded humbugs who are presiding over the dismemberment, destrution and ruination of what was once a great nation and the total dissolution of a once great people - the British.

Conservative the world over should be working together to stop the destruction of western civilization by a flood of third world Islamists and the violence, intolerance and social chaos which accompanies Islam everywhere.

The potential for abuse is why thinking conservatives as well as others oppose the Patriot Act.

Ah yes. Exactly what we Freepers always applaud the NYT/LAT for with Abu Ghraib, Cheney, etc etc. /sarc

If he leaked confidential information, then he's just as bad (or good) as any liberal wistleblower.

NOTHING listed in the accusations against him appear to reveal ANYTHING other than the government’sd Criminal Collusion with elements involved in the destruction of British society.

THAT is not treason - its whistle-blowing.

Britain has virtually no checks and balances. It all depends on the civility of the men in the Government. Some may think that the NRA is cracked on the issue of guns and the 2nd Amendment, but symbollically it represents a real independence of the people and practically it pulls government up short of any resort to oppression. If that seem fanciful, think of how long the IRA has endured in the face of British rule.

But to understand the people persecuting him you must understand that they believe western civilization is responsible for all-emphasis on the word all-the violence, intolerance, and social chaos in the world. In other words,
white liberal guilt.

All fine and good, as long as he's already been exonerated in your court, then no bother at all.

Some whistleblowing is good and some is double-plus ungood.

Ahhh...I remember the good old days when we were in fear of Hillary at the reins with the Patriot Act in her holster. What fools we were.

I never, in my entire life, ever thought I would be praying for a Clinton in office.

The spectrum between the lessor of the two evils is staggering.

They don't et it.

Yesterday there was a guy on the local radio who was substituting for the customary anchor, Larry Cudlow.

This individual identified himself as a liberal who voted for McCain because of the terrorism issue. He went on to explain that the west must stop ignoring the fact that militant Islamists who comprise a significant proportion of the Muslim population are our enemies and the only way to deal with them is to destroy them. We have nothing really to discuss with them as in public they always they say the right thing but in their performance they demonstrate their real intents.

He received a call from a woman who wanted to know why the hell the government in the U.S. continues to allow Muslims here after 9-11.

The host immediately took offense and insisted that there were very many decent Muslims he personally know who opposed Islamic violence.

The caller asked him if had ever read the Quran.

He responded he had not, but he understood there were some statments in it which carried an insinuation of violence.

This man's ignorance of the Quran, the Haddiths, the Umma, Dar el Salaam and Dar el Harib and Dhimmitude as well as Islamic philosophies and history are the REASON Islam is WINNING the moral war with us.

And was not a fool. He was an educated man and an attorney by trade.

The man who gave Churchill all the Nazi info kill himself when the liberals discovered what he was doing in the 1930’s. History repeats itself.

Yikes. We conservatives (pro-american freedom-lovers) may find ourselves in this situation, too. I have also thought about this. The Patriot Act will not be in the hands of our enemy and can be used against us. God help us.

I'm told that's one reason the Constitution was written - to prevent a "Good King - Bad King" scenario. If the Act is that badly written, then we have regressed.

Are British politics really this nuts? Has the government awarded too much power to police?
