Isn’t McCain coming? I am sure he can generate a lot of support from the over 70 crowd.

All Saxby has to do is ask and I bet she would be there.

Saxby is in trouble, because he has lost the base.

An example:

I went to the FairTax rally last Saturday (hastily put together to drum up some support for Chambliss.) Speakers included radio host Neil Boortz, Congressman John Linder, Gov. Huckabee, & Sen. Saxby Chambliss (who spoke last.) When Chambliss started to speak, people started to leave the hall. Not a ton, but a number so significant that it was noticable (I was at the back of the room, and people were going past me to get out during most of Chambliss’ speech.)

Huckabee was greeted to chants of “Huckabee, Huckabee”. Neil Boortz to chants of “Boortz, Boortz”, then “Neil, Neil” (he made jokes about both.) Chambliss? Nothing. When he got up to speak he made a joke about not wanting to hear the Boortz chant again yelled at him (which should have been a queue for a “Saxby, Saxby” chant.) Nothing.

This is a group that should be the core of Chambliss’ support. There should have been enthusiastic Chambliss support, but there wasn’t. There were plenty of people wearing Saxby stickers, but the enthusiasm for Chambliss was just missing. They are ticked about the Martin ads (that mischaracterize the FairTax), and are plenty mad enough to go vote AGAINST Martin, but not a lot for Chambliss.
