Huckabee, Finally, Settles His Campaign Scores
Time Magazine ^ | November 17, 2008 | Michael Scherer

Posted on 11/17/2008 6:47:16 AM PST by rightwingintelligentsia

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is not the sort of politician who likes to bite his tongue. But that's just what he has found himself doing over eight months since he ended his surprising and colorful presidential campaign.(See pictures of Huckabee's campaign here.)

What does he think is wrong with the Republican Party? What does he think of his former primary rivals? What is the best direction for the conservative movement? To each question, he answered only in broad strokes, refusing to get too specific or pointed. He was writing a book, he would say. It will come out after the election. He will "name names." Just wait and see.

On Tuesday, that book will arrive on store shelves, and in terms of payback it will not disappoint. At once a memoir of his campaign, a treatise on the ills of the Republican Party, and a blueprint for his own political future, "Do The Right Thing: Inside the Movement That's Bringing Common Sense Back to America" is filled with sharp words for fellow Republicans who frustrated his bid for the party's nomination.

I know what’s wrong. They spend too much money and want to impose a nanny state and are too soft on illegals.

God has opened doors for Huck that I’m sure he never dreamed of, especially his FOX show. It’s still getting its footings, but seems pretty decent. Kind of weird when he has EXTREMELY liberal people on (I couldn’t watch the Bill Maher interview though to save my life) and to watch what appears to be mainly conservative/Republican live audience’s reactions, LOL.

I do like the “Little Rockers”—kind of rough, but I think in time they’ll improve too.

I think doofuses (doofi?) like Huckabee are what is wrong with the Republican Party personally. I was hoping he'd go away, but as with everything else this election cycle, he instead gets his own television show and now a book, which is fitting, because his campaign toward the end was nothing more than an extended book tour.

Isn’t he the SOB who withheld his primary votes from Romney and the rest to give McCain the upper hand? Schmukkabee is a jackass and a jerk . . . exactly what’s wrong with our party . . . no common sense . . . selfish . . . not looking out for the interests of America . . . hence, we have this Kenyan-born, America hating, empty suit about to live in our White House . . . disgusting and disgraceful.

What’s wrong with Republican party? Nothing that couldn’t be fixed by placing a few thousand right leaning individuals in the MSM.

You are both sooooo right on. Huckabee seems very nice and funny on his show; but the truth remains, it was because of his political collaborative move with McCain that we ended up with McCain.

Thanks for nothing Huck.

Mark Levin blamed Huckabee and Governor Suntan Crist for throwing the election. Huckabee needs to stick with his show or start a mega church. He needs to stay away from the GOP.

Notice it is insipid Republicans like Huckabee that get attention from the MSM so that they can make fun of us. Look at who Cnn has on—David Combover Gergen and Ed Nasty Rollins.

He accuses Bauer of putting issue of national security before bedrock social issues like the sanctity of life and traditional marriage.

What a poltroon. National Security is THE fundamental responsibility of government. If the government isn't doing that, there's no reason for it to exist... and it won't do so for very long.

Hucksterbee's major contribution to this campaign was as a Judas Goat who ensured McCain would be the nominee by forcing out any serious alternatives (Fred, Romney).

Like Newt Gingrich, he might be able to redeem himself by pushing the FAIR tax, selling books or helping wishy-washy conservatives like Saxby Chambliss get elected over far worse alternatives. Huck might even be as good a senator as Lindsey Grahamnesty if he will go for it.

But he can do the conservative movement a favor by never running for president or vice president again.

Huckster has constantly shown himself a flim flam man who was able to fool just enough of the rubes to be a vote splitter to get mccain in.

This GOP primary was only about vote splitting.

If we eliminate the dead end vote splitters like huckabee, mccain would never have been an issue.

Yep...all the GOP has to do is LISTEN to Laura Ingrahm, Mark Levin, RUSH, Glenn Beck and others and change from the Country Club to Sam’s Club in their heads and we’ll be fine. I hate the elites in our own Party....they’ve ruined us. Do what Sarah did when she got elected...fire everyone and let them interview to get their jobs back.
