Defeated Palin makes triumphant return home; GOP infighting grows

Gov. Sarah Palin returned home in defeat to Wasilla, Alaska, today - leaving behind eyebrow-raising tales about towel-clad appearances and internal campaign feuds. [...]

Among the stories reported by Fox News and Newsweek magazine:

-- She showed up in front of John McCain campaign aides "wearing nothing but a towel";

-- She sent campaign staff on a shopping spree for her family that insiders described as the "Wasilla hillbillies looting Nieman Marcus from coast-to-coast";

-- She was so shockingly ignorant of basic civics that aides prepping her for her single debate realized she didn't know that Africa is a continent and not a country, nor could she identify the countries that comprise North America. [...]

On election night, the New York Times reported, Palin showed up at McCain's election-night gathering in Phoenix ready to read a concession speech. It goes against campaign protocol for a vice presidential candidate to speak on election night, and the move was vetoed by McCain strategist Steve Schmidt. [...]

"She didn't know the nations involved in the North American Free Trade Agreement," NAFTA - a key agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada," he said GOP insiders told him. She also "didn't understand that Africa was a continent and not a country" and asked for explanation about the difference between South Africa and Africa, he reported. [...]

And the lingering matter of her wardrobe spending continues - a Republican party attorney has been assigned to look into Palin's designer clothing purchases and, reportedly, to retrieve the expensive items. [...]

"An angry aide ... said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books," according to the magazine.

Still, conservative leaders downplayed those reports, insisting that base voters were deeply impressed by Palin and her contributions to the ticket.

This is but continued disinformation, hardly surprising from the SF rag, which obviously a lot of conservatives, including apparently Gondring, seem eager to fall for and wring their hands over.

Politics is war by other means.

The goal of the left/Democrats is not to just defeat an admirable opponent, such as Palin, in an election - but to at the minimum neutralize them for all coming elections.

To put it simply, they want to destroy Sarah Palin and prevent her from ever again being a formidable candidate.

To this end they are at this time, with obviously the panting assistance of the media, promulgating and trying to keep prominent any thing they can turn into a smear on Palin.

What is amazing is that so many conservatives actually accept the false premises that the left and media present them - and proceed to anguish and attack one another, just as the left and media wish.

We are at war in America. See through the disinformation/propaganda for what it is. Defend yourself and what you believe in. Attack the left and Democrats and the media.

If the necessary DNA for defending oneself is lacking in ourselves and the population, then we, you, our families, and this nation, are done for.

Had it not been for Sarah and her realness, McCain wouldn’t have gotten as far as he did. They need to point blame but they should blame McCain for being a liberal.

Because if you stick with Palin, and God forbid she in the nominee in 2012, we will lose.

Unfortunately, the media carriacture of Governor Palin is running unopposed against the real person.

The media (especially), the turncoats on the campaign staff, the RINOS, and the IV League country-club Republicans all view her as a threat to the status quo. The Media were unprepared for her nomination, and sans dossier, used a shotgun approach with what little dirt they could muster up (insubstantial as it was). Ad hominem attacks were used to play on an image the media created by careful editing, and by exploiting the ages-old tendency of the urbane to consider themselves superior to their rural counterparts.

In the absence of solid rebuttal, or even a forum in which to make that rebuttal, the carriacture the media have created outweighs the candidate (and unfortunately will continue to do so) in the minds of the national electorate, despite flying in the face of reality.

Palin's 'handlers' kept her reined in until the last weeks of the campaign, when I believe she moved against their advice and took a more aggressive stance.

You do not get to be Governor of a State which could split down the middle and make Texas the third largest State without having something to offer. You do not do so with an 80% approval rating from the electorate without being competent. And you do not defy the 'good ol' boy network and win without being a fighter.

The loss was not Palin's fault, but was either orchestrated by the RNC or the result of gross incompetence on their part.

I seriously believe the global socialists have been pulling the strings of both parties for some time (we can surmise as much with Soros and the Dems). If not, the net progress of their agenda is a tremendous windfall for them indeed.

That fact you actually believe this crap says more about you than Palin.

I think there is a deliberate attempt to make her look common and more like white trash than to acknowledge the overwhelming positive she gave these sexist pigs.

'Sexualizing' her, with the media emphasizing her attractiveness, has only laid the foundation to portray this married mother of 5 as a tart and a bimbo, de-emphasizing the education she has, the achievements she has, and opening the door to the whole 'hick from the sticks'/'My Fair Lady' paradigm which the media is flogging now.

For all the egalitarian horsedung that they have thrown around, apparently only Democrat women can be treated as serious and intelligent women, the rest are to be treated otherwise.

The hypocrisy is amazing, and no one is calling them on it.

I consider this an insight into the real lord McCain's view of women. Other than his best friend Hillary, women are expendable.

And God forbid the kids get any clothes!

Are these of the same bunch who won't buy a house without a half-dozen walk-in closets the ones griping about a family on the campaign trail having enough clothes to only do laundry once a week?

Sheesh!

Don't worry, the USA will protect you. Oops, forget that. We'll soon have a very limited military. You're on your own. Good luck.

The only gossip here that's even worthy of note is the "Africa" thing, which seems bogus. My guess is that there was confustion regarding "South Africa" and "Southern Africa." I would have known the difference, but I couldn't tell you the names of half the countries in Africa, especially those little ones on the west coast.

OTOH, she does know that there are 50 states, unlike Obama. That hits a little closer to home. And where was the reportage on that?

DO NOT INVEST IN PEOPLE, invest in ideas. We will win these next elections because our ideas are better.

Know any ideas we can nominate in 2012?

The same folks who would be scandalized by such behavior if it were a Dem, or a neighbor, are enthralled that "she's just normal folk" and behaves so casually--and decorum is irrelevant.

I agree. I never get out of the shower unless I'm fully clothed.

Yes, this is a hit piece...but is there truth in it? I believe there very well could be some.

In Catholic ethics, we are supposed to give the accused the benefit of the doubt with regard to gossip. What ethical system are you operating under?

When she takes the stage I am relaxed. When McCain takes the stage I cringe. McCain says strange things. His voice quivers. When he is attacked, he does not counterattack. He allows value ammunition to just drop to the floor. Many time he could have brought out heavy artillery - and he left it hanging. My opinion is that she is a natural talent - and everyone knows it. Give her four years to get ready? Watch out! And the jealous ones, and the snotty ones are trying to nip the “Sarah problem” in the bud. They’ve seen the crowds. They’ve seen the response, and they saw the millions that poured into the coffers just because of HER. This woman makes alot of people afraid.

Spot-on analysis.

I consider this an insight into the real lord McCain's view of women.

Not so much McCain, but certainly the Media, her political opponents, and to some degree, even Conservatives have fallen into the trap.

There is a longstanding prejudice fostered by Hollywood and the media, (and to no small extent women who will get as far as they can on looks alone), that any attractive woman is stupid, uneducated, a 'trophy', or a tart.

The self-annointed standard-bearers of "equality" who would have had no problem with a (Hillary) Clinton Administration have savaged another woman who has direct executive experience and are using this very unegalitarian prejudice to do so.

Hypocrisy at its finest.

The other prejudice Hollywood has fostered of the 'great rural uneducated unwashed masses' is ridiculous, but still present, and acts to pave the way for the presentation of Palin (or any other candidate from a rural or Southern state) as at best a well-polished hick, despite the prima facie evidence otherwise: Washington, Jefferson, and Madison were all farmers from a Southern State.

Governor Palin is amazingly full of energy and has a magnificent personality. I love her too!!!! : ) : )

We ALL misspeak. Biden misspeaks more than any politician I ever heard. But Sarah's the dope!/sarc

I love it when some say she needs more "grooming." What???? So she can be as deceitful as the rest of them?

Actually, KAC, they KNOW she's NOT a dope. She's a threat who must be undone.

Isn't it interesting that the attacks on Palin continue on after the election.

And not a peep from McCain or the rest of the RINO’s.

Very telling there.
