NEW YORK (CBS) ― Mayor Michael Bloomberg is going to cut the city work force by 3,000, but that's just the beginning of the pain New Yorkers will feel as part of the fiscal crisis. A slew of new taxes are also on the agenda.
There will be 1,000 fewer cops, but the city will hire 200 more traffic agents to give out $60 million a year in new block-the-box tickets.
"The gravity of the budget situation requires us to propose both deep spending cuts and revenue increases," Bloomberg said.
The spending cuts mean reducing the city work force. The revenue increases mean taxes -- lots of taxes.
In the current fiscal year there's the 7 percent property tax hike that starts in January -- and the plan to renege on a promised $400 property tax rebate.
-snip-
The mayor proposed raising the income tax by either 7.5 percent or 15 percent.

the height of insanity. Now how many firms move?
Gosh those @#$^ rats never thought of this.
Was going home in midtown yesterday and I saw two obvious Obama supporters hanging around city “housing” and wearing “Run the Elites out of Town!” shirts.
I’d like to see them eat after the “elites” get out and stop paying their bills.
To add insult to injury, these clowns live a 15 minute walk from my job but I have to commute 1-2 hours because real estate is too expensive in the area for us “elites”.
People deserve exactly what they vote for.
Next, they’re going to be begging the feds for a bail out. You and I are going to pay the price for NY remaining a liberal bastion.
WAIT A MINUTE!
I hope he means NYC Income Tax Could Rise 15 Percent,
And not NYC Income Tax Could Rise TO 15 Percent!
Why so modest? Why not 50%?
yeh, including all those in western part of PA who voted that pig Murtha back in.
A DIRECT slap to our troops alive and dead!!!
PA is a total shit hole and I hope it always remains that way.
This is true.
Some years ago Bloomberg's "agents" gave a $60 ticket to a guy sitting on a milk crate. Seems like he was using a milk crate "improperly". I kid you not.
Store owners are pulling down their awnings if they have more that the store's name on them. One guy got ticketed because his awning mentioned tobacco, newspapers, snacks, and other inflamatory words.
Then there was a pregnant woman who was sitting on the subway stairs. She was fined $50. OK, may she was blocking the narrow exit, but couldn't she have been told to move along?
New Yorkers are in for a lot more of this creative "law enforcement". "To Protect and Serve" has become "To fine and harass."
So those filthy pieces of $#!+ could blame Republicans for the mess that NYC has been for generations (of freakin democrats).
