This article from 2007 states that Semantic avoided investigation with Hugo Chavez ties by selling Smartmatic voting software to Sequoia.

Could the sale to Sequoia have been just a shell game, to avoid the investigation, is Hugo Chavez spinning this Election Day results? Keep watch on the numbers from E machines, do they make any sense?

The question of ownership is important. Chavez may have sold the company, but if you could peel back the layers you might find out that its still owned by him through some other cutouts. Or maybe it was sold to some ACORN or the Saudis or the Clintons through some intermediaries.

Convincing people that cyber ballots are more trustworthy than paper and mechanical counters has got to be the con of the century.
