Richmond Times-Dispatch poll shows tight race for president in Va. O-47 M-44

The presidential contest in Virginia is heading toward a photo finish.

The final Richmond Times-Dispatch Poll of the campaign shows Sen. Barack Obama at 47 percent and Sen. John McCain at 44 percent. Nine percent are undecided — an unusually large slice of the electorate. The profile of undecided voters suggests that some are potentially opposed to Obama.

Because Obama’s advantage over McCain is within the poll’s margin of error — plus or minus 4 percentage points — the contest in Virginia can be considered about even.

That is not even factoring in the loss of a large part of Obama's base.

McCain will take Va by 5-7pts.

And yet the MSM has all but put VA in Obama’s column.

I really wish we had just a few of these battleground state polls with McCain up by any amount before election day. :(

The 9% that are undecided are overwhelmingly white and 75% of them are not from Northern VA.

It may be getting tighter, but McCain needs to stop being in second place.

These people really aren’t undecided at all...they’ve made up their minds but just don’t want to say so. What do you think?

I think that’s part of it. I do know that my brother-in-law and my sister-in-law, both Virginians, are truly undecided. They don’t like either candidate and I’m hoping (and praying) they decided they dislike Obama more.

This poll is more of the same old BS. RTD editor is a black militant. Headlines are ALWAYS gloom and doom for GOP.

You may be on to something about the “undecided” voters keeping their preference for McCain to themselves.

I would love to see a long-faced Katie Couric on Tuesday night say, “CBS News projects Senator John McCain the winner in Virginia.” Then, a grimace crosses Katie’s face as she plainly states, “We are projecting a winner for another state....CBS News projects Senator John McCain the winner in Pennsylvania!”

Nearly 60 percent of veterans prefer McCain, who spent 5½ years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. Virginia is home to more than 800,000 veterans, putting it second to California.

This alone should tell you how inaccurate this poll is.

Right, 9% undecided 3 days before the election. They are just not telling who they are voting for and that should scare the dems to death.
