Republican John McCain's bid to become the next president of the United States has won the support of Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry.
The guitarist told the Boston Herald that he thought Mr McCain was better suited to solving threats to America's national security and its economic problems than rival Barack Obama.
He also said he believed Mr McCain could still overhaul Mr Obama's lead in the polls.
Im an optimist. It aint over till its over. I think that hes got a chance, he said.
Perry's endorsement has come as a surprise, and goes against Aerosmith's usually non-political stance.

Amy Lee of Evanescence
Joe Perry's from Massachusetts.
also, he says he's been a life-long Republican:
"The guitarist told the newspaper that he had been a Republican all his life.
My mother and father drilled into me from the very start that if you work hard and be positive, youll get what youre working for. I guess Im living proof of that, he said.
If they weren’t making music by about 1985, chances are slim I’ve heard of them. LOL
The online version only shows about a quarter of what the print version has and doesn’t have that part..

Amy Lee is gorgeous and has such a beautiful voice. Not really sure about her politics though. While Evanescence was once active in the Christian music scene, they seem to to have rejected that label as they have become more mainstream. In fact, their last album “The Open Door”, was removed from a number of Christian stores after Amy Lee replied to the group appearing on the Christian charts with, “What the f@#* are we doing there?!” She still personally calls herself a Christian though. Still, I think they an awesome group and are about the best thing that mainstream rock/pop has to offer right now.
4 or 8 years ago I read that Marilyn Manson is a Republican and he said “I hate socialists”.
LOL- you may not like this, but add Marylin Manson to that list.

Thanks, I’ll search the web and see if I can find the whole thing.
Add John Ondrasik of Five for Fighting.
I forgot that Evanescence started out as a Christian Rock band (local in Little Rock).. something like ‘Two Stones’?
I’ve been looking and I can’t find any political quotes on line.. may be good for their popularity- possibly why she kept her comment vague. Another poster just reminded me that Evanescence started out as a Christian rock band- so it makes more sense.
Sounds like a hell of a party...Im in.
Don't forget your ear plugs!
Punk Rock Republicans (The McCain Blogette ^ | 10/25/08 | Meghan McCain)
It is my great honor to announce that Linda Ramone, the wife of the late legend Johnny Ramone will be joining me to campaign for my father in Nevada on Monday and Tuesday. I couldn't be more excited and humbled if Elvis himself came out on the road with me. Looking forward to sharing with you what its like to campaign with a legend!
Excellent..I LUV me some ‘smith! :)
Don’t forget “Trick Daddy”, “Young Jezzy”, “fat Joe” are very popular rappers who’ve indicated support for McCain. Trick Daddy is a staunch republican.
McCain Aerosmith song: Back In The Saddle
0bama Aerosomith song: Dream On! (or no more no more)
“Fat Joe” is for McCain??? Cool!
Dude, we forgot about Gene Simmons & Kid Rock..
I prefer quality over quantity.
The quality of the musicians over the “acting” skills of Lindsay Lohan and the money of Oprah...forget those ridiculous super market rag headliners.
I’ll take these guys any day.
