Romney Supporters Trashing Palin
Townhall ^ | 10/28/2008 | Amanda Carpenter

It looks like there might be some truth to those rumors former Mitt Romney supporters are already trying to clear Sarah Palin from the GOP presidential deck to make room for their man Mitt in 2012.

Former Romney Spokesman Kevin Madden was particularly harsh on Palin in an interview on CNN. His criticism of Palin is especially noteworthy because we're only days from the election.

In a spot with Campbell Brown Madden said Palin's wardrobe flap showed how "unseasoned" Palin is.

BROWN: And, Kevin, even defending this whole controversy over the clothes, the RNC buying all the clothing, it keeps the story going, and, as Dana pointed out, one more day where it's dominating the coverage.

KEVIN MADDEN, FORMER ROMNEY CAMPAIGN NATIONAL PRESS SECRETARY: Yes. And that's an indication just how unseasoned Sarah Palin is as a national candidate.

Ordinarily, somebody who knows that this is something that you're trying to get to a subterranean level, that you don't want to dominate the narrative for yet another news cycle, would make sure that they don't mention that, and, instead, they focus with a certain rigidity on the message of the day, because that's exactly what a V.P. is supposed to do.

Madden went on to say this is why McCain should have picked someone to be VP who has been a governor "for a long time." (Um, who would that be...?)

MADDEN: Look, that is why people who have done this before, people who have run national campaigns, always tend to look at prospective V.P. candidates, and they're the ones that are nationally vetted, the ones that have been governors on the scene for a long time, the ones that have been -- gone through the scrutiny of the national press corps in Washington. And that's exactly what has happened here, is that, when you put out an unknown and you give them 70 days with which to go through a vetting process, both by voters and the national press corps, ugly things can tend to happen.

An interview with Campbell Brown? That’s adding insult to injury. Despicable.

I guess that the people who decided to vote AGAINST “Mitt Romney “ in the Primaries were right on not voting for him....

This pretty much dooms his chances with the party. Back channel a memo to Romney to get his people in line until after the election.

WARNING:

This is a “Tee-It-Up” or “Divide & Conquer” post.

The IMs have gone out.

The posse should be here shortly with wet their special brand of “reluctant” pessimism and discontent.

PARTICIPATE WITH CARE!

Madden no longer works for Romney. Romney, himself, has been out campaigning for McCain and Palin, and speaking positively about Palin.

They can cry all they want. He will NOT be the candidate in 2012 or any other time.

If Romney had any class, he'd tell his supporters to shut up about it.

Romney is the only candidate nobody could find any dirt on except that he had a bunch of houses. The guy’s is squeaky clean so I don’t buy that Romney is behind this.

His former aides? Which used to be other people’s former aides? I believe they could be behind it, sure.

Don’t count on it. Don’t be surprised if we are told that we must vote for Romney because he is the lesser of 2 evils. It just goes on and on and on.... RINO after RINO.

We’re going to remember this, Mitt, especially if Obama wins. You better get Madden under the bus or the horse trailer ASAP.

This is what Mormon’s do.

They must discredit the real Christian to build up their own man. Just like they cast doubt on real scripture claiming it’s full of errors and omission in order to get their new scripture received.

I’ve seen the same thing in the work place. I’ve seen some incredibly polite backstabbings and lies from Mormons over the years.

I’ve never used this word before, proves there’s a first time for everything.

Romney is a RINO.

And not even a very good one at that.

And I would add that if he had the ability and/or the willingness to play Hardball, and had any killer instinct whatsoever, he would’ve beaten McCain with talk radio and NRO and most conservative outlets coalescing around him.

So skeptical he has the cajones to do this.

Romney probably would have been a disaster. He gave a good speech but until very recently he was an extreme liberal, pushing through gay marriage, socialized medicine, big abortion advocate. Many in the base don't believe that his conversion is anything but political opportunism.

If he walks the walk for the next 4 years that might make a difference.
