Your humble correspondent had figured the polls would start to narrow in the final week of the campaign but this stunning new Gallup poll shows the lead in the Presidential race narrowing much more rapidly than he had assumed. The latest Gallup poll of traditional likely voters shows the race has narrowed down to 49 percent for Barack Obama and 47 percent for John McCain. Here is Gallup's explanation of this poll:
Gallup's "traditional" likely voter model, which Gallup has employed for past elections, factors in prior voting behavior as well as current voting intention. This has generally shown a closer contest, reflecting the fact that Republicans have typically been more likely to vote than Democrats in previous elections.
Meanwhile, over at the Daily Kos, some have nervously pooh-poohed this poll but others are starting to hit the panic button. Here is a sampling of Kossacks sweating buckets with some commentary by your humble correspondent:

The KOS better start enlisting more dead, alien, and multiple-time voters.
PING!
JUDY’S TURN TO CRY
(Edna Lewis / Beverly “Ruby” Ross)
Lesley Gore - 1963
‘Cause now, it’s Judy’s turn to cry
Judy’s turn to cry,
Judy’s turn to cry
‘Cause Johnny’s come back (Johnny’s come back, come back) to me
Oh, when Judy left with Johnny at my party (my party)
And came back wearing his ring,
I sat down and cried my eyes out
Now, that was a foolish thing
‘Cause now, it’s Judy’s turn to cry
Judy’s turn to cry,
Judy’s turn to cry
‘Cause Johnny’s come back (Johnny’s come back, come back) to me
Well, it hurt me so to see them dance together (together)
I felt like making a scene
Then, my tears just fell like raindrops
‘Cause Judy’s smile was so mean
But now, it’s Judy’s turn to cry
Judy’s turn to cry,
Judy’s turn to cry
‘Cause Johnny’s come back (Johnny’s come back, come back) to me
(Instrumental Break)
Oh, one night I saw them kissin’ at a party (a party)
So, I kissed some other guy
Johnny jumped up and he hit him
‘Cause he still loved me, that’s why
So now, it’s Judy’s turn to cry
Judy’s turn to cry,
Judy’s turn to cry
‘Cause Johnny’s come back (Johnny’s come back, come back) to me
Yay, now, it’s Judy’s turn to cry
Judy’s turn to cry,
Judy’s turn to cry........FADE
The KOS better start enlisting more dead, alien, and multiple-time voters.
LOL... The Kos dumbasses are just a prelude to what’s going to go down when the million-plus find out NoBama loses on 11/4. Chicago is going to burn.
alert, alert, intruder alert
I think we’re gonna win this. BO is JUST TOO RADICAL.
He is on defense and has been for about a week.
Dow’s up. MAC SURGES !!!
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times:
“They do not have the stomachs to be Republicans nor Conservatives”
We are ALWAYS behind in polls, in positive media coverage, we are slandered, mocked, ridiculed and laughed at, yet when we stay the course, we end up winning Elections.
My prediction:
Marijuana sales spike and soon...
I just hope they don’t all turn on their beebers at the same time.
I sure hope so but McCain needs to quit trying to run on the mortgage crap. Keep to message through election day and he will win.
And another....
I was all right for a while, I could smile for a while
But I saw you last night, you held my hand so tight
As you stopped to say “Hello”
Aww you wished me well, you couldn’t tell
That I’d been cry-i-i-i-ng over you, cry-i-i-i-ng over you
Then you said “so long”. left me standing all alone
Alone and crying, crying, crying cry-i-ing
It’s hard to understand but the touch of your hand
Can start me crying
I thought that I was over you but it’s tru-ue, so true
I love you even more than I did before but darling what can I do-o-o-o
For you don’t love me and I’ll always be
Cry-i-i-i-ng over you, cry-i-i-i-ng over you
Yes, now you’re gone and from this moment on
I’ll be crying, crying, crying, cry-i-i-ing
Yeah crying, crying, o-o-o-o-ver you
And the beautiful thing about this is that Gallup is still projecting a 60% turnout based upon the non-existent influx of new yoots and minority voters who will vote overwhelmingly for Obama.
This 60% projection is identical to Gallup’s projection of four years ago. They were off by 5 points, which caused it to overstate the Democratic advantage in the electorate by 2.5 points. So, arguably, what you really have is McCain now in the lead by and with the remaining undecided voters more likely to vote for him based on their voting patters in previous elections. Most of them are white voters who voted for Bush 4 years ago.
They are the meanest nastiest hateful bastards out there. I’m convinced the race is not as out of reach as the MSM will tell you. I still think enthusiasm doesn’t equate to votes when you are talking about young people. They want to go to the rock concert but when the rock star isn’t at the polling place they are less likely to show up. Remember the young were going to come out for Kerry just so they could end the war and get Bush ...the illegitimate president out of office? How did that turn out? The young won’t show up in any larger numbers than 4 years ago.....they’ll let everyone else do it since Obama is up so much...
Those Kos characters need to move to China, Cuba or Venezuela...to a country they can be proud of.
It truly was the “good old days”. Today that song would have someone shooting the bitch.
Where’s my popcorn?.....
