This election cycle has exposed an enormous divide across the country. It’s not the divide between black and white; it’s not even the divide between liberals and conservatives. It’s the divide between elitists and the rest of us.
Elitism is a state of mind. Not everyone in New York and Los Angeles is afflicted by it, and not everyone from Jackson, Mississippi is free from it. Elitism is the feeling of superiority enjoyed by certain people based on their income, education, and nuanced value system. Elitism carries with it a strong hint of “sophisticated” Europeanism, as well as a large helping of atheistic skepticism.

You’re an elitist if you love Brokeback Mountain, but think that John Wayne movies are jingoistic expressions of outdated American machismo.

I know what arugula is, I also know who Jimmie Johnson is. I think Madonna was pretty good at self promotion and I can enjoy a decent soccer game, but I don't consider myself an elitist by a long shot.

Ah, a connoisseur of what will eventually be classified as Celtic music. Kraftwerk never knew that it was Celtic, but it is and I have Merlin, the synth Magician’s word on it — he created the DX7 and the Roland Juno 106 in the 80s. He was also up against the Germanic Celtic horde that hung out in discos, but the English did their fair share of hanging out in discos too and much of their music is very derivative. Look at Bill Nelson’s music in the 80s and it’s really Kraftwerk as a Morris dancer. Anyway, The Celts are responsible for all of it. It you look at one of their interlocking designs while sniffing their tea pots all is revealed like a cheap sitcom, like Eddie Murphy role in 24 hours.

I’d have guessed a race driver, if I had to. The name looked familiar, and it’s impossible not to see drivers’ names, living in Charlotte.

Worst part was I watched the race from Sunday (and was severely disapointed that Kevin Harvick didn’t win) and yet, when I read it the first thought I had was the Coach.
