CNN) — John McCain – who has often praised civil rights icon John Lewis – called a statement by the Georgia congressman Saturday comparing the outbursts at recent Republican rallies to the rhetoric of segregationist George Wallace “a brazen and baseless attack” that is “shocking and beyond the pale.”

Lewis issued his statement after several days of headline-grabbing anger directed at Democratic nominee Barack Obama by some attendees at McCain campaign rallies.

I think you are racist for posting this! :) Because isn’t the new definition of racism saying or thinking anything that isn’t complementary of the chosen one?

These attacks will only get worse if Obama is elected.

“Porkchop” Lewis is a race hustler. It’s all he’s got going for him.

According to a report I saw on Brietbart.tv (I think the name of the show was B-Show) the other day there was a report that the ones who shouted that were the OBAMA Supporters OUTSIDE the venue. You know — like the liberal anti-war activists have for the last few YEARS in reference to George Bush?

We aren’t saying that Obama is a terrorist - but he sure is showing all the signs of one, and at the very least he is directly connected to more than one of various Anti-American Interests (Communist & Islamo-Fascist)

What I’d like to know is what was Lewis doing at a McCain rally?

I am surprised that McCain didn’t agree with him, and call Lewis an honorable man.

I am determined to recycle the same post on now 3 threads on this subject:

It is obvious to anyone paying attention that the politically correct victim mentality dynamic is nothing but a mechanism for controlling speech and influencing political power.

The word ‘racist’, given its awful meaning by hundreds of years of slavery, murder, and genocide, has been reduced to nothing but a shibboleth intended to stifle speech and obscure the truth.

My empathy for poor downtrodden supposed victims is gone.

My tolerance for participating in a charade based on pretense has passed.

There is no recovery from the damage this election has wrought. No way that I will ever again give concern or consideration to those who would manipulate and control based on meaningless words and empty sympathies.

Yelling racist slurs in the audience?

even if a conservative says something that is not racist it is still racist because all conservatives are racist and anything they say is racist because racists can only say racist things no matter what because they are racist to the bone and the essence of being conservative is racism at the very foundation of the being of the conservative who hides behind a political term that only means racism...

get it...?

This cannot have happened. John McCain said in Lakesville, Minn., that if we stay respectful, then the campaign will be respectful, and everybody will be respectful. Or, as McCain said in Waukesha, Wisc., it’s not important to vote Republican, because nobody needs to be afraid of having Obama in the White House.

So, I’m sure Lewis never said anything offensive. Which means McCain IS racist to be objecting to it.

I think we’ve all noticed that criticizing Obama is racist... not voting for Obama is racist... etc.

I respectfully disagree. They won’t get worse. People will simply very quietly show up at your door and take you to re-education camp.

I heard this when listening to Fox News on XM 121 while doing errands...boy talk about hubris on the dems...they’re the ones injecting race...

The American people are MAD for several reasons:

1) Dems allowed the economy to go into the tank because they’re in cahoots with Fannie/Freddie

2) Dems don’t want us to do any offshore drilling

3) Dems want to raise taxes

4) HUGE distrust of the MSM and its reporting

5) Distrust of politicians in general.

We are not angry at Obama because of his sex, race, or age. We are deeply concerned and apprehensive on his proposed policies and angry that the MSM is hiding a lot of things.

Let’s go vote people!

Shakespeare put it best, “the man doth protest too much”. I find it odd that they are shrieking so much because Palin very mildly raised Obama’s ties to the terrorist William Ayers. Obama put himself into this — first by stating that Ayers was “some guy who lives in my neighborhood”, then acknowledging that they “served on a board together”, then admitting that his first fundraiser was held at the house of Ayers (whose wife, Bernadine Dohrn, was on the FBI Most Wanted List). Now he’s claiming that Ayers has been “rehabilitated”, which is an odd phrase out of Soviet Russia. Rehabilitated just when? Was it on 9/11/2001 when the NY Times published an inteview with Ayers in which he said that he didn’t regret the bombs, only wished he’d done more? Was it after that when Ayers was photographed stomping on an American flag? Was it when Ayers expressed “remorse” - he NEVER has. Just when, Mr. Obama, was this terrorist “rehabilitated” and for what reason? Or don’t you want to talk about it and instead send out your minions (like John Lewis) to shriek “racism” at anyone who dares bring up the subject? If you can’t take the heat on this subject, Senator Obama, then you should never have gone in Ayers’ (and Dohrn’s) kitchen to raise money.

Is this the fight we really want to pick? Of all the sins of Obama himself which leave the candidate vulnerable why do we take after a civil rights icon, a mythological figure to the press who will be protected by them to the death? This man, as Misguided and outrageous as his comments were, is not a candidate!

Of of all times for John McCain to come out of his coma and start swinging. I despair.

For the record, no one in this forum can claim a greater aversion to playing the race card then this poster. It is one of the reasons I chose this name and avatar as is explained in my about page. I am for fighting this battle as hard as it can be fought, but there must be a time and place to deploy your forces that is at least tactically sound.
