The world is at severe risk of a global systemic financial meltdown and a severe global depression
RGE Monitor ^ | Oct 9, 2008 | Nouriel Roubini

Posted on 10/10/2008 1:26:57 AM PDT by Tejava

The US and advanced economies’ financial system is now headed towards a near-term systemic financial meltdown as day after day stock markets are in free fall, money markets have shut down while their spreads are skyrocketing, and credit spreads are surging through the roof. There is now the beginning of a generalized run on the banking system of these economies; a collapse of the shadow banking system, i.e. those non-banks (broker dealers, non-bank mortgage lenders, SIV and conduits, hedge funds, money market funds, private equity firms) that, like banks, borrow short and liquid, are highly leveraged and lend and invest long and illiquid and are thus at risk of a run on their short-term liabilities; and now a roll-off of the short term liabilities of the corporate sectors that may lead to widespread bankruptcies of solvent but illiquid financial and non-financial firms.

Good Lord!   I've got ten bucks that says when I walk outside in a couple of hours the sun will rise in the East and the sky will still be in place, and blue.

The bail out is not going to work.

We'll see when they start to implement it.

And I've got 99.5 Yen that says the Sun will do no such "rising", in fact it is not going anywhere and not moving, but that the earth will rotate eastward and in due time, the stationary sun will become visible for those on the US East Coast and then moving westward.

What bothers me is that these negative articles all seem to be trying to tell us something we don’t know. Guess what! We know!

The next bastard that opens his mouth to trash the global economic system, I hope someone puts a ball bat into it.

Ratings are more important than public calm. Nobody’s financial knowledge prowess is needed right now, for us to realize things are not good.

People should shut the hell up if they don’t have anything neutral to decent to say. We can see with our own eyes.

Now, if a few days were to go by without folks trashing every move, we just might see one person step forward that wasn’t scared out of their fircken mind.

Until then, we’re going nowhere but down. And yes, I think there is reason, but I also think we could have leveled out by now without the panic on television to convince us we couldn’t.

John Wayne didn’t turn things around by grabbing a bottle and doing negative interviews for weeks at a time.

SHUT UP!

Well, at the rate I was saving for retirement, I never thought I’d see retirement anyway! I figured I work until I dropped dead. That’s beginning to look more and more likely!

Or it needs to get bad enough for it to look like it worked, then 0bama is our savior.

When Black Friday comes
I'll stand down by the door
And catch the grey men when they dive from the fourteenth floor

When Black Friday comes
I'll collect everything I'm owed
And before my friends find out
I'll be on the road

When Black Friday falls you know it's got to be
Don't let it fall on me

When Black Friday comes
I'll fly down to Muswellbrook
Gonna strike all the big red words
From my little black book

Gonna do just what I please
Gonna wear no socks and shoes
With nothing to do
but feed all the kangaroos

When Black Friday comes I'll be on that hill
You know I will

When Black Friday comes
I'm gonna dig myself a hole
Gonna lay down in it
'til I satisfy my soul

Gonna let the world pass by me
The Archbishop's gonna sanctify me
And if he don't come across
I'm gonna let it roll

When Black Friday comes
I'm gonna stake my claim
I'll guess I'll change my name

"Black Friday"
(Donald Fagen and Walter Becker)
as performed by STEELY DAN
on the album Katy Lied (1975)

The key thing here is DON’T PANIC - it only adds to the feeding frenzy.

Deep breath in.....

Deep Breath out....

One foot in front of the other.......

.....and the sun with both rise and set yet another day.

John Waynes didn't have 24/7 news access (with dozens of 'news' channels) and thousands of bloggers who are read globally either.

Different world, can't compare.
