What do the top ten cities with the highest poverty rate all have in common?
DEMOCRAT LEADERSHIP!

Detroit, MI (1st on the poverty rate list) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1961
Buffalo, NY (2nd) hasn't elected one since 1954
Cincinnati, OH (3rd)... since 1984
Cleveland, OH (4th)... since 1989
Miami, FL (5th) has never had a Republican Mayor
St. Louis, MO (6th).... since 1949
El Paso, TX (7th) has never had a Republican Mayor
Milwaukee, WI (8th)... since 1908
Philadelphia, PA (9th)... since 1952
Newark, NJ(10th)... since 1907

Einstein once said 'The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.'

It is the disadvantaged who habitually elect Democrats - yet are still disadvantaged... hmmm...

There's some errors here...

Lou Miriani was non-partisan. Albert Cobo was the last. He died in office in 1957.

Incorrect. James Griffin ran on 3 different party labels during his 16 years in office (1978-94). He served as a Republican from 1986-90.

Nope. 1971. Willis Gradison, who later served as Congressman. The opposition party in Cincinnati to Democrats were Charterites (liberal Republicans). When Ken Blackwell served as Mayor in 1979-80, he was a Charterite.

"Cleveland, OH (4th)... since 1989"

Correct. The current Senator George Voinovich left office in 1989 after 10 years.

"Miami, FL (5th) has never had a Republican Mayor"

Incorrect. Miami-Dade County currently has a Republican Mayor, Carlos Alvarez. The City of Miami last had a Republican Mayor prior to the current Mayor, that being Joe Carollo, who left office in 2001.

Correct. My distant cousin was a Republican Mayor from 1913-1925. A much different city then.

Incorrect. Fred Hervey was a Republican when he served his final term in 1973-75. There may have been others, but I haven't been able to track affiliations. One Dem Mayor was a DINO who endorsed Dubya.

1912-16, Gerhard Bading was, I believe, a coalition candidate of both the Dems and GOP to oppose the Socialist majority in Milwaukee (they elected Socialist (Scandinavian/European style) party Mayors for decades).

Yup, all Dem, despite some narrow attempts.

I believe Ralph Villani was a Republican (1949-53). All Dems since.

And FWIW, Cleveland has had Dems 51 out of the last 66 years
(about 77%). The last GOP was George the cryin RINO Voinovich 1980-89

Yup, the monster feeds on itself. As a result people in cities are s*rew*d.

Damn shame there isn’t more urban Republican strength. Having that (R) next to your name is a non-starter in many places. Perhaps creating local parties, “good government” coalition type deals with non-corrupt rats should be explored. The rats tend to be highly factionalized in areas they dominate.

The city of Cincinnati has a large number of Blacks, so it makes it harder for a Republican to win. Cincy only recently changed how the Mayors were elected to direct. It used to be the highest vote-getter on the Council assumed the position. Cincy was a GOP city for a long time, but like a lot of urban machines, it had corruption in it. The Charterite party was formed by liberal/reformist Republicans/Democrats to oppose the machine. Dems started to grow and supplant the Charterites. I think there are only a couple Republicans left on the city council.

It is humorous how Democrats used “Republican corruption” as an issue in places like Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Detroit, Chicago, et al, only to swiftly establish their own corrupt machines that haven’t been displaced in some case for a half-century or longer (Chicago last elected a GOP Mayor almost 80 years ago). The dirty little secret is that urban politics tends to be quite corrupt, no matter which party in charge (although the corruption of the past used to mean people got their services, having palms greased, that sort of thing, but nowhere near the level of dysfunction and criminality most urban areas have now that would’ve been intolerable then), but Democrats run virtually all cities, and they’re quite comfortable with that mess they’ve made.

Unfortunately, some of those urban R’s are scarcely different than the Dems. Rarely do you have big time reformers and privatization advocates like you had with former Indianapolis Mayor Steve Goldsmith or folks like Bret Schundler.

You can almost admire such a brazen bald-faced lie in comparison to the “spin” of today.
