I suddenly noticed that the next big expansion to the popular "World of Warcraft" online game, "Wrath of the Lich King", comes out on November 3rd. That's one day before the election.
Anyone think basement-dwelling liberals will be too busy with the new game to go out and vote? Hey, I can dream...
Well if they release it at midnightlikem some of the gmes are released and make them stand in line and all of that then there is a good chance that them staying up too late will make them sleep too long into the day to make it to the polls!
No. I think you would be surprised at the number of conservatives who play.
- signed, basement dweller.
Well I’ve never played wow, I do play EQ2 and I’ve got Warhammer on preorder,,, tried AOC .. its was ok just not enough content.
Actually, I never played World of Warcraft. However based on what I heard from teens, it sounds like a rip off of Dungeons & Dragons.
Same here. My son is an avid player and tells me all of the time about his conservative friends in the game. Quite a large contingent of them, and I am pretty sure they will vote.
He does say there is the periodic troll on the message boards spreading liberal propoganda. Makes me wonder if the Dem party is paying people to do that.
Anyway, at the last family barbeque, we were discussing the campaign and some of us were needling him because for all his talk of voting for Obama, he isn't registered to vote yet. He just shrugged and said he'll get around to it eventually but I'm pretty much sure that it will keep "slipping his mind" until it is too late. I'm certainly not going to go out of my way to tell him when the deadline is either.
But this kid is typical of many young people old enough, but not mature enough, to vote. His life revolves around the moment and whether there is a "party" going on that night. He's a big video game freak too, including World of Warcraft or whatever that online game is called.
Anyway, I think it's a safe bet that Obama is going to be one disappointed fellow on Election night when he realizes that a large portion of his base never even got out to vote. Every election cycle, much is made of the "young vote", but each and every time, they never quite turn out in the numbers to make a difference.
Even in 1968, when the youth of America were radicalized like no other time in our history, young voters mostly stayed home while their arch-nemesis Richard Nixon slipped into office easily.
Never have I. I’m old school, though, Lands of Lore, Dark Sun, Ultima, etc.
I would not say he fails at humor, but his analysis might be incomplete. I too wondered if people who play a game with that title might not be Obama supporters.
Well , in that case , I surely hope you make sure that your Conservative WoW friends get out to vote ....
We play it boldly upstairs in the light of day - when we can - or at night, but still upstairs. ;p There are a lot of military folks in our guild - I know they’re not in the Obama camp. I’m sure we’ll be in any midnight lines for the expansion and also in line at the polls the next day.

Actually, Sarah has depressed my WoW playing.
I highly doubt most WoW players are conservative so you fail at discrediting this topic.
Hopefully the fools will also keep listening to “Rage Against The Machine” and stay away from the elections process altogether.
I have four level 70 characters in World of Warcraft. My wife has three.
We’re both conservative.
And we both WILL be at the polls on November 4. :)

It would not surprise me in the least if a lawsuit came down from the DNC to try and compell Vivendi/Blizzard (the publisher behind WoW) to postpone this release.
Anyway, someone who puts higher priority on a video game than voting maybe is not someone that belongs in the process anyway, regardless of political view.
I enjoy the telling players that beg for gold on WoW that this isn't World of Welfare and to get off their butts and go earn some.
Hey, hey, hey- I’m not in that age group (to say the least). Lol I love that game. I will however be voting and working that day. Priorities, people, priorities.
Someone should set up a poll on the WoW forums “Who will you be voting for?” or maybe “Will you you be voting?”
A lot of us right wingers are gamer geeks too. :(
