Democrats Dream of Vengeance
National Review ^ | September 9, 2008 | National Review Editors

So now we have Barack Obama’s plan for bringing the nation together after the election: If he gets his hands on the Department of Justice, Obama will use that power to prosecute his political opponents.

Democrats have howled for three years about the purported politicization of the Justice Department, claiming — in the absence of much evidence — that partisan considerations have affected decisions about whether to file charges in certain cases. This was the rationale behind the witch-hunts spearheaded by John Conyers, Henry Waxman, and Patrick Leahy over the Bush administration’s firing of seven district U.S. attorneys.

The Democrats’ vice-presidential nominee, Joe Biden, was caught the other day assuring the party faithful that an Obama administration “will not be stopped from pursuing any criminal offence” committed by Bush administration officials. He was simply echoing the party’s standard-bearer. Back in April, Obama told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he intended to have “my Justice Department and my attorney general immediately review” any information that might be used to justify an investigation of the president or his aides. Like Biden, Obama averred that “if crimes have been committed, they should be investigated.” The Little Green Footballs blog has even turned up an Obama campaign flier about Iraq promising to “hold accountable any perpetrators of war crimes.”

They're interested in pursuing a political vendetta not in bringing the country together!

Make no mistake about it,

the Left is not our “political opponent”.

If given the power, they WILL use the power of the state to kill you for your political beliefs.

Hyperbole? Really?

Turn ammo into skill.

Learn to work with one or two others.

Train yourself to shoot AND move at the same time.

This makes it all the more absurd when people say the Dems and Obama will protect our rights and liberties! What a joke. Ed Koch endorsed Obama today, in part because he said Palin’s supposed attempt to ban library books is “scary.” We’ll see if Koch is among the ones protesting when Obama and his minions are doing their dirty work.

Standard practice for any African “democracy”. As soon as the new regime is in power, Job #1 is to hunt down and kill any stragglers from the old regime.

When does “prosecution” become “persecution”? There is a definite line there somewhere.

The definition of “criminal” has been subtly, and sometimes not subtly been expanded to cover a whole raft of actions, because they offend something called “social justice”. The question with “emissions” and declaring carbon dioxide a “pollutant” is one of the more recent egregious assertions, that have no basis in historic legal terms, or in scientific fact.

Being intelligent is not a felony, but most societies evaluate it as at least a misdemeanor. “Lazarus Long”

Oh, please. Name me one time in history when a leftist has used the power of the state to kill political opponents... Other than Russia, China, Hitler's Germany, North Korea, Vietnam, Laos..., you'd be hard pressed to come up with even 100,000,000 examples. That is hard even statistically significant for a Leftist...

Yeah, it happened every time in every place in which collectivists gained the power to do it,

but we here in America, we’re different, it wouldn’t happen here.

This is the viewpoint of those that refuse to recognize the Biblical truth of the fallen nature of Man. They believe that because they live now and are so much more perfected (evolved?) than anyone in the past, that they can take power without genocide.

This is yet another issue the GOP should use to bash Dems over the head. I hope they will take advantage of it.

Well isn't that the way politics are done in Africa?

Did not President William Jefferson Clinton, as one of his first acts in office, demand resignation letters from every US Attorney in the Justice Department and then retain the ones he wanted?

Or do I “misremember” that event?

Do you have a credible link for that? I was trying to argue the point but the best I could find was an account in the Boston Herald which wasn't entirely favorable to her. To make a point I searched the public library's online catalog to for 3 titles and which local libraries carried them, if any. Some were almost entirely missing, some, totally missing. That means somebody decided they wouldn't be purchased or discarded if they once had them. Maybe it was dumb on my part because nobody got the point, and it wasn't entirely analagous.

This is from FactCheck.org, and addresses the library story among others:

AND . . .

From the City of Wasilla official website, a categorical denial that there were EVER any banned books:

http://www.cityofwasilla.com/Modules/ShowDocument.aspx?documentid=516

We at the City of Wasilla have received many emails and requests for information about “banned or censured” books at the Wasilla Library while former Mayor Palin was in office. We have no records of any books being “banned or censured” ever.

Of course they’re interested in national unity: “Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Furher” was a national unity slogan.

The Harry Potter books are on the list; they had not been written at the time.
