John McCain's speech: tectonic plates begin to shudder...
The Telegraph ^ | September 5, 2008 | Mick Fealty

Lloyd Shepherd (late of Westmonster) has a very useful note on the fact that the media has obsessed on the poor nature of John McCain's often highly personal speech.

Lloyd:

"I’ve just finished reading Dan Kennedy on the media’s negative reaction to John McCain’s awful speech last night, and nowhere in it does he mention a very salient fact - that after the speech, Intrade’s price for McCain becoming president increased significantly, while Obama declined."

He has the figures, so go over and check them out. They indicate something's moving below the short term weather system of the polls.

As I have mentioned on a previous thread, I get a sense that all those fervent conservatives for Obama from earlier in the year are going to disappear and slope quietly back across the party lines just about now, now that the Republican party has chosen someone to make them feel good about.

So much for the celebrated "Obamacons!"

Feet of clay.
Jaw of glass.
Spine of spaghetti.

A real witches’ brew...

The left already has zero understanding of how markets work (not believe in individuals making their own decisions kind of handicaps you that way).

Add futures markets to the mix? They’re going to consider it black magic. Count on attempts to ban Intrade soon as they continue to prove correct (especially about the downfall of lefty messiahs).

McCain is an Enabler, of the noblest sort -
the Democrats are loathe to recognize this.

I don't disagree, but those futures markets had Romney at a 77% chance to be VP the night before the pick was announced.

Coulda been George Soros, covering his shorts.

It was a very meaningful speech....he said everything he needed to say.....did anyone catch his remark about not letting some unlucky future generation face all the problems and bills were making today?....

sure it wasn't SP....it couldn't be nor should it have been a speech like hers....

with Sarah, the public got to see the spirit of the McCain/Palin team, and with McCain's speech, they got to see the grit.....

ONWARD!

Spectacularly wrong! They're wrong too about an Obama win and any liberal foolish enough to bet on it to the same extent they bet on a Romney pick will find themselves taking it in the shorts!

Yeah, I was actually checking around throughout that night (I work nights), and hopped onto Intrade to check the status of the rumors around 5 or so in the morning.

I thought perhaps she would’ve jumped from 5% to maybe 25 or something and it might be a good buy, but I was amazed at how quickly the market reacted. Of course, this wasn’t the kind of thing subject to a vote or any other observable “market conditions”...it was a unilateral decision so the only question was how well McCain would keep it secret, and for how long. Once it came out, the contracts spiked to near-certainty, and that was still hours before any of the dinosaur media got around to it.

The best part? The bratty trust-find hippies on college campuses everywhere must’ve been so dismayed when the “tech savvy” Obama told them his VP choice via CNN (or rather, via phone calls from their parents who found out before they did by watching CNN). Meanwhile those on the right found out about “old man” McCain’s pick via Intrade, Drudge Report, etc, long before the news shows got around to it.

Obama didn’t have the guts to send the text message that he had chosen a wrinkley old white guy with some prior, but serious, health problems.

The dems are their own worst enemy.

Hah, I knew it. Intrade is becoming the barometric indicator of choice. Not polls.

This is great, because there’s a chance to put your money where your mouth is and to make money doing it. And if you’re right, you end up taking money from zerObama supporters, if there is any Obama bias left in that market.

"Coulda been George Soros, covering his shorts"

Actually, he probably needs to change his shorts.
