Can You Cross Out ‘Hillary’ and Write ‘Sarah’?

Unity Deferred

It was an awfully complicated week to be a Hillary supporter.

Her voters headed into the Democratic National Convention in Denver with anger, with threats to reprise 1968. Then came the swelling of pride, as Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton gave what many considered the speech of her life. But, oh, the regret: if only she had campaigned with that kind of oratory!

By the time Mrs. Clinton graciously called for the convention to nominate Senator Barack Obama by acclamation, some of her supporters were working their way toward acceptance, wiping tears but nodding as she declared that the party had to unite behind him. Yet how could they not feel at least envy, watching the Obamas and the Bidens stroll out in triumph, and thinking that their candidate could have been in either role, at the top or bottom of that ticket. Not even vetted for V.P.!!

Then, of course, came Friday: “It turns out the women of America aren’t finished yet!” That was Sarah Palin, the Republican governor of Alaska, as Senator John McCain introduced her to the country as his vice-presidential nominee. “We can shatter that glass ceiling!” she proclaimed...

--snip--

Ms. Hoover has stopped giving to Emily’s List as a result. “It doesn’t make sense to me that, frankly, Emily’s List didn’t hold them accountable for having been elected on that platform but then not supporting that platform,” she said. “The setback for the pro-choice movement is almost deserved.”

--snip--

Lanny Davis, who was special counsel to President Bill Clinton and who came to exemplify the die-hard Hillary Clinton supporter so much that he was barely speaking to a son who supports Mr. Obama, said he was riding such a roller coaster of emotion that he finally Googled Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’s five stages of grief...

I prefer to consider each candidate on their merits. That being said it is far more likely that a McCain victory will ultimately lead to a Palin Presidency (either during a McCain term or in the 2012 or 2016 election) than a Biden presidency given that Biden has past his "best before" date.

If Palin gives a good account of herself much of the post-1980 gender gap could be remedied.

The author is unfair- HIllary improved a great deal in the campaign - so much in fact that even my mom (who never trusted not liked Hillary, evenwhen she voted for Bill in 92) actually had nice thigs to say about her. She will be a formidable campaigner in the future.

Thank you for the link to that account.
It’s funny the crowd cheers Sarah’s name, though.

The other thing I noticed- even after Clinton bowed out in June, Obama did NOT delete the nasty attacks against her on his site - they are probably still there. Her supporters have reason to be upset by Obama’s behavior. She tried and will (at least publicly) help him, but he has done little for her.

I 'warmed' up to Mrs. Clinton, but I thought it was mostly because of the contrast to the 'other guy' (...I still can't get over the fact that someone who was a member of that abomination of a 'church' for 20 years is still considered a viable candidate for any office beyond that of dog catcher...). Maybe it was Mrs. Clinton... Whatever the reason, I wasn't as repulsed at Mrs. Clinton as I have been in years past...

Though she has little experience

She's got more executive experience than Obambi. I think the lib looney media is making a mistake with this charge.

May I remind you...

1) HillaryCare
2) TravelGate
3) Vince Foster
4) Stolen FBI files
5) Juanita Broaddrick 6) Condoms on the Christmas tree

Should I keep going?

I think so too. She knows well enough that McCain can better handle our foreign threats. And if there’s going to be some socializing of America, she would want to be the one to do it. Plus, she wouldn’t want an incumbant Democrat to deal with in 2012. She would much rather rail against the past four years of McCain/Palin. And if Obama sinks now, he’s gone, and the Clintons will still be the closest thing to leaders of the party.

Here was my take...

I was watching the live feeds today. Mac and Sarah in Penn and Obama Biden in Ohio...

It was strikingly dis similar...

Penn... Up beat... Pos... not one neg mention of the opponent... Kudos to Hillary... Sarah built up Mac....and told us about herself. Talked about our country... etc.

contrast with...

Ohio...

Bloveeeateing Biden...(who was obviously registering above .05 alcohol...second time now... you could see the look of exaspiration on Obama’s face as if he were saying...”God, why did “we” pick this guy...?) for about 30 minutes on what a scoundrel Bush and McCain...are...Talking about himself...and I think if I’m not mistakin drawing from the plagierism...of the past ....

THen “finally” introducing Obama...

The contrast was monumental.... One of pos and one of negative...

If this country picks them...then something is really wrong here...and it’s the start of the fall of the roman empire...

Re: 12

Hah!
Nooo... please don't remind me. I haven't forgotten the history of the Wicked Witch of the Ozarks (the 'Rose Law Office', Her 'Commodity adventures', her lies when she tried to participate in the Watergate takeout of Nixon, etc)... I'm just saying -- even with ALL of that -- Mr. Obama was actually make me warm up to Mrs. Clinton.
I know - yuck -- but that's a fact...
