Democratic far-left wing sees its best chance in decades

DENVER -- The most revealing moments at the Democratic National Convention didn't happen in the hall or on the stage. They occurred as activists, political operatives and thinkers gather at small forums around Denver to talk about the future.

Two panels this week revealed potential fault lines among Democrats if they end up in control of the White House and Congress.

A morning panel sponsored by The American Prospect made clear that the more liberal wing of the party feels resurgent and wants sweeping change reminiscent of Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal.

An afternoon forum sponsored by the insider publication National Journal showed the liberal agenda could be frustrated by the deliberative temperament of Barack Obama and the measured approach of congressional leaders.

The left wing is still rooted in its traditional places -- the labor movement and single-issue advocacy groups. But it is also now housed on the Web, which liberals have used to great effect for fundraising, organizing and communicating a tougher message.

....to loose a presidential election by such a staggering margin. The Dems will make history this year of that I have no doubt.

I thought it was George Soros.

“...the liberal agenda could be frustrated by the deliberative temperament of Barack Obama and the measured approach of congressional leaders.”

Are they still trying to pass off Barack Hussein Obama as a pragmatic moderate? He’s as radical as they come.

Well the way politics is, if they push for too much too fast, the Republicans will make gains in the 2010 mid-term election in Congress, and perhaps even sweep away the Dem. majorities there.

But let’s think positive that we won’t have to worry about a President Obama and liberals in his cabinet, and bigger Dem. majorities in Congress next year pushing their agendas.

The far left is going to be very angry the day after the election. It will be entertaining to watch them take out their anger on the Dem Party.

I see things shaping up for a serious drubbing of the Dems in the presidential election, though probably not in the congressional elections.

These morons are already whining that if obummer looses it will be because the republicans cheated. They live in an alternate universe where it is impossible for them to conceive that their political views may just plain "suck" to most Americans so it has to be some form of treachery on someone's part that defeats them. Simply put they are insane.

1) Immediate passage of a reinforced version of FDR’s “Economic Bill of Rights” - the unconditional right to food, shelter, health care, education, and security in old age or infirmity (for continuity with “Democrats” - you know, FDR).

2) The universal right and obligation to work, at a reasonable standard of wages.

3) The evacuation of all U.S. Overseas military bases and territories, the elimination of that greater part of the defense establishment devoted to anything but national defense, and the immediate dismantling of all “intelligence agencies, foreign and domestic.

4) The immediate nationalization of all defense related industries.

5) The immediate nationalization of all banks and financial institutions, all energy related companies, all power generation and transport, and all other industries of strategic significance.

6) The confiscation of the property of all speculators, lobbyists, corporate criminals, and those who have let industrial, agricultural, and commercial properties fall into disuse and disrepair. The immediate confiscation of the property of those who have transferred commercial ventures or capital overseas.

7) The dismantling of the judicial and penal systems, the nationalization of all private aspects of those systems, the immediate review of all laws and criminal penalties, and the reduction of the prison population by 80% within 2 years. The immediate elimination of capital punishment.

8. The creation of the organs of “peoples power” with full plenary rights at every level of the society at each job site and important jurisdiction, the replacement of municipal authority by such and the rapid creation of a single system of laws, obligations, and responsibilities.

9) The creation of a peoples militia which will consist of the entire people armed and the transition of all extra police and para military functions to that body.

After that we can catch our breath and decide what we really want to do next.
