Eddie Money is commercial rock. However I think Gimme Some Water could be put into the southern rock mold. In fact Money just recorded a country version of that song with Vince Gill.
Gimme Some Water ‘cause I shot a man on the mexican border
cool, cool, water, I need a little water!

Gov't Mule is the best band touring today. Warren Haynes is the hardest working man in rock n roll.

Widespread Panic is a close second.

JUST GOT PAID by ZZ TOP

I have always contended that ZZ Top was under the influence of supernatural forces when they composed, and recorded, this song.

Simply sublime.........beyond description

“Train Train” - Blackfoot; awesome guitar work, inspired harp break by the late, great Cub Coda (of Brownsville Station fame)

“Flirtin’ With Disaster” - Molly Hatchet; another great guitar piece. Like “Train Train”, I dare you to listen to it and not crank the radio and shake what ya got.

Great thread!

I'm a big Allman Brothers fan. "Ramblin' Man," "Midnight Rider," "Melissa" and "Blue Sky" are my favorites. An obscure tune of theirs called "Louisiana Lou and Three Card Monty John" is also a sentimental favorite of mine.

I think "Freebird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd is a good -- but overplayed -- song. "Tuesday's Gone" is their best tune, in my opinion.

Black Oak Arkansas. I really liked their first self titled lp and If An Angel Came to See You Would You Make Her Feel at Home?

Also Ozark Mountain Daredevils lp, It’ll Shine When It Shines.

Hard to pick a favorite.!

Southern Tunes are written with these thoughts:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEAF-UQoBWs

“Southern Accents” , Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

There’s a southern accent, where I come from
The young’uns call it country
The yankees call it dumb
I got my own way of talkin’
But everything is done, with a southern accent
Where I come from

Now that drunk tank in Atlanta’s
Just a motel room to me
Think I might go work Orlando
If them orange groves don’t freeze
I got my own way of workin’
But everything is run, with a southern accent
Where I come from

For just a minute there I was dreaming
For just a minute it was all so real
For just a minute she was standing there, with me

There’s a dream I keep having
Where my mama comes to me
And kneels down over by the window
And says a prayer for me
I got my own way of prayin’
But everyone’s begun
With a sou thern accent
Where I come from

I got my own way of livin’
But everything gets done
With a southern accent
Where I come from

Hi Fatima! Love these music threads you do.

Love Skynyrd but can’t choose a favorite. Maybe Simple Man. Three Steps. Sweet Home Alabama. Hard to choose they’re all good.

Tom Petty - Last Dance with Mary Jane; Running Down a Dream

CCR - Looking out my Back Door; Mississippi Queen; Bad Moon Rising

The Band - The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down
