Russia Briefly Seizes Georgian Port (U.S.-owned vehicles stolen by Russian thugs)

Excerpt -

POTI, Georgia -- Russian troops briefly seized control of the economically vital Georgian port of Poti Tuesday morning, a day after Moscow said it had begun pulling its forces out of Georgia.

The Russians also confiscated five jeeps and an armored Humvee belonging to the U.S. armed forces, according to Alan Middleton, CEO of Poti Sea Port Corp. He said the equipment was used for joint U.S.-Georgian military exercises and was sitting in the Poti container terminal ready to be shipped back to a U.S. base in Europe.

"I suppose the U.S. won't be impressed by losing their equipment," said Mr. Middleton.

"I suppose the U.S. won't be impressed by losing their equipment," said Mr. Middleton.

Probably not. We don't seem to care. A few people, a bit of equipment, a country here and there, heck, it's all the same.

It is a fair taking. They own the ground. If we want to do anything about it, we need to own the ground.

If we want to be involved.

And that would seem to be what the West needs to decide. Will we find the "intestinal fortitude" to stand up to the Slavs? Or squish them as they blow their little bit of capital?

On those questions, ride history.

Life must be hard in the USSR, I mean Russia. They're stealing everything they can find and then some. Probably Georgians will find the bathroom tissue gone in their homes when they return.

I thought the church had revived in Russia but perhaps not. These thugs are showing the world the lovely new Russian character. How proud Russia must be of her new face to the world.

Chances of a great country, which gave the world Dostoevsky and Rimsky-Korsakov, is very slim I think.

It seems the gene pool has been depleted or altered so terribly by the gulags that only thugs and thieves are left.

The question at this point is not what President Bush will do but what NATO or SHAPE will do. The US has spent untold amounts in both organizations as a “partner” in mutual defense. The US has been the principle force behind the NATO alliance, employing our considerable security umbrella over western Europe. Though it is obvious that Russia’s actions are meant to embarrass the US, the real embarrassment is the revelation that without the US, western Europe is a paper tiger.
If countries like Germany, Spain, Belgium, Italy, etc, will not step up to the plate for their own defense than maybe we need to relocate our forces to more friendly countries like Georgia, Poland and the likes.

Yes we and other countries (NATO) have already pledged to rebuild the country and military in Georgia. At this point, Russia is stealing from the world, not Georgia anymore.
A point they may have difficulty understanding, I suppose.

Well, can you blame those Ruskies for wanting to drive a Humvee after having to drive their POS vehicles all the way to Georgia?

The literature and music is a thin veneer over a brutish, drunken underbelly that the Czars, Stalin and now Putin have manipulated for centureis. Much of the Russian schadenfreude at Georgia’s victimization is the Russian’s envy of a culture that has blossomed under democracy and freedom AND economic progress.

That and the fact that without Georgia and Ukraine, the Russian menu is a tad boring. :-)

Does this equipment have any sensitive technology? What about the weapons / targeting system of the armored one or are these just basic transport type vehicles?
