Obama's infanticide problem
American Thinker ^ | 8-17-08 | Thomas Lifson

Posted on 08/17/2008 4:01:53 PM PDT by Renfield

You can tell Barack Obama knows he has a problem when he starts lying about his record, and the lie is readily disprovable. Such is the case with his 2002 vote against the Illinois Born Alive Infants Protection Act (covered today by Kyle-Anne Shiver's AT article, and by Ed Lasky's AT article last week). A nearly identical federal bill passed the Senate unanimously, supported even by the likes of Barbara Boxer.

Guy Benson of Townhall.com explains the context:

What made the federal bill so much better, he explained, was its inclusion of an additional clause that expressly (and redundantly) stated the law would have zero effect whatsoever on abortion policy or the legal status of the unborn. This language convinced the Senate's most reliable pro-abortion members to support the measure unanimously. Even NARAL gave it the green light, and Obama claimed he would have, too. [....]

Setting aside the meaninglessness of Obama's distinction between the state and federal bills, he seemed to believe this explanation would satisfy voters' concerns about the issue. The media swallowed his story without skepticism, thus discarding Obama's potential political problem in the proverbial linen closet. But truth has resilient streak, and years later, Obama's tale is unraveling.

The National Right to Life Committee last week uncovered documents proving that Obama's "I-totally-would've-supported-the-Senate-bill-because-I'm-a-moderate!" clarification is an outright falsehood. According to NRLC spokesman Douglas Johnson, the records "prove that in 2003, Barack Obama, as chairman of an Illinois state Senate committee, voted down a bill to protect live-born survivors of abortion - even after the panel had amended the bill to contain verbatim language, copied from a federal bill passed by Congress without objection in 2002, explicitly foreclosing any impact on abortion."

Jill Stanek, the Illinois labor and delivery nurse whose exposure of the practice of treating abortion survivors as medical waste, sparking the state bill, and the later federal legislation, exposes the lie Obama told last night after the Saddleback Forum, in the Illinois Review.

Barack Obama's stood by his lie that he did not vote against an identical bill as IL state senator to the federal Born Alive Infants Protection Act when responding to that pointed question to CBN's David Brody last night after the Saddleback Showdown :

(Video of Obama lying is linked at original article)

And here is the document from the state senate archives that proves the lie:

Stanek explains:

"DP#1" means "Do Pass Amendment #1." "DPA" means "Do Pass as Amended."

Here is the original bill. Here is Amendment #1. Here is the federal Born Alive Infants Protection Act.

Obama first voted in favor of Amendment #1 and then voted against the Born Alive bill as amended. It couldn't be more clear. Furthermore, here is the Republican Senate Staff Analysis from that day, expressing the same understanding of the chain of events:

Benson speculates about why Obama took the ultra radical position he embraced with his vote:

Americans must ask themselves why Barack Obama really opposed this legislation. It's already been established that his standard explanation isn't the truth, so what's the genuine reason? One possible answer is that Obama's commitment to legalized abortion runs so deep that he believes the Constitution guarantees that "right," even if the initial abortion procedure fails. Put crudely, once a woman chooses to abort, she's entitled to a dead baby. That position is so far out of the mainstream, it's no wonder Obama may have decided to use misdirection and deception to explain away his vote.

Another possibility is that Obama's a hyper-partisan ideologue. The driving forces behind the Born Alive Infant Protection Act were pro-life groups that generally support Republicans. Perhaps Obama's fierce partisanship and leftist ideology were simply too strong for him to stomach handing any conservative group a political victory.

The liberal media are just going to shrug their shoulders and move on. But the pro-life community is large enough and organized well enough to make this lie an issue. The failure of the same liberal media to cover the John Edwards scandal ensures that the public is aware of how selective and biased they are, heightening their receptiveness to news from alternative sources.

This lie isn't going to go away quietly. The undecided voters have one more reason to distrust the fine-sounding smooth rhetoric dished out by Obama.

A package of Born Alive bills was introduced three times during Obama’s tenure.

The cornerstone bill was the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, which defined legal personhood. This definition was identical to the federal BAIPA (1) which was drafted from the definition of “live birth” created by the World Health Organization in 1950 (2) and adopted by the United Nations in 1955 (3)....

Here I will only post links to Obama’s actions and votes on the cornerstone bill, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. The bill number changed every year it was reintroduced.

2001

2002

Senate Bill 1662 ( 8 ), Born Alive Infant Protection Act

Go here to view Obama’s “no” vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee (9) on March 6, 2002. (ABC inadvertently coped bill #1663, a companion bill. The vote for the Born Alive bill, #1662, was identical.)

Obama’s “no” vote on the IL Senate floor (11), April 4, 2002

2003

Senate Bill 1082 (12), Born Alive Infant Protection Act

Democrats took control of the IL Senate with the 2002 elections. They sent Born Alive to the infamously liberal Health & Human Services Committee, chaired by Barack Obama (13).

As can be seen on the Actions docket (14), Obama held Born Alive on March 6, 2003, from even being voted on in committee. It is also important to note from the docket that on March 13, 2003, Obama stopped the senate sponsor from adding the lately discussed clarification paragraph (15) from the federal BAIPA, to make the bills absolutely identical.

Where did those question come up, Senator Obama? Trinity?

Example: Joe Bidens observations;

On Aug. 1, 2007, when Obama unveiled his counterterrorism agenda, the Biden camp fired off a snarky email congratulating him for his “Johnny-come-lately position” on Afghanistan, noting that during two Foreign Relations Committee hearings on Afghanistan and other subjects, Obama didn’t ask questions about the Taliban, Al Qaeda, or Afghanistan.

That’s just it, Obama never was engaged in the issue, yet he claims questions ‘kept coming up’, and the Biden earlier posted comment shows Obama questions weren’t ‘coming up’ in the Senate at that time.

Comments about Obama being ‘intellectual’ and ‘thoughtful’ are void of reality. Obama embellished, lied.

What is Compulsive Lying?

http://www.mental-health-matters.com/articles/article.php?artID=153

There are a number of reasons that people lie. The first is fear. This is the most common reason that people may lie, and they are taking shelter from a perceived punishment. It may be because they know they have done something wrong a single time, in which case it is not compulsive lying.

But if they are always in fear of being punished, it may become a habit, which is a second reason for lying. In this case, it may become compulsive lying, which is lying by reflex. Even when confronted by the truth, they insist the lie is the truth in this case.

A third case is learning to lie through modeling. When a people see others lie, especially when they get away with it, they may become more prone to lying.

Finally, people lie because they feel if they tell the truth they won’t get what they want. Thus, out of the main reasons for lying, only lying by habit can truly be called “compulsive lying.”

Increased lying has been seen with a number of psychiatric diagnoses such as ADHD and Bipolar Disorder. With ADHD people will often say “I don’t know why I did that”, and when confronted about why they lied, their answer will be the same.

ADHD children also display impulsivity, and they may lie implusively. Bipolar Disorder can be associated with low serotonin levels, which has been implicated in impulsivity, which, as indicated before, makes a person more prone to lie.

Osamaobama never learned the difference between lying and telling the truth.

His mother didn't give a fat rats ass about teaching the bastard any morals and by the time he was living with his "typical white grandmother" he was so far gone on drugs and his hatred for half of his own existence, that it was too late to instill any real moral values in him.

It's so sad that a person with his intellect is so twisted.

I might start to think that perhaps the media isn’t completely lost if just one of them would confront Obama on his lies. Why lie about something that can be proven as a lie? It is a filed document that can’t be altered! DUH! Also when he said last night that the “hardest thing he ever had to do was vote against the Iraq War”, excuse me Senator Obama but you were not a Senator yet when that vote was passed prior to Jan. 2005 when you took your seat there.

When asked the question last night about what the candidates saw as the biggest failing of the country, Obama went into an answer designed to align with the Evangelical vote -

He brought up that we should be following the admonition of what is said in the Bible about: "as ye do unto the least of these, my children.”

What?

This cries out for an ad with side by side clips of him saying this and then his total commitment to abortion on all levels...and his record of almost 100 votes supporting abortion against McCain's ZERO votes.

Then of course there was the remark about Clarence Thomas, with an impressive resume, by the way, as being not experienced enough for such a high position.

Ah, look in the mirror time, BO?

The great moral failing of the country: “WHATEVER YOU DO FOR THE LEAST OF MY BROTHERS, YOU DO FOR ME.”

I wonder if Senator Obama gave any thought when quoting this passage to the unborn who have lost their lives to abortion? Or to those who survived abortion but were left to die under the kind of infanticide he believes is legal?

I wish Rev. Warren had followed up on this one.

I am glad this article has all of the original documents and Obama’s angry explanation on video within it.

Here’s what I am getting:

Obama liked and voted for the additional amendment to the state bill that added that nothing in this bill affects a child who is not yet born. But even with that amendment passed, bipartisanly, Obama voted with all of his fellow Democrats AGAINST the bill itself, which would have forced all medical professionals to perform life saving care to anyone born.

Now he is calling people who say he has an “infanticide problem” LIARS. But the only reason he gives that makes any sense is that there apparently was already a law in Illinois mandating care for newborns. Yet since nurses were witnessing live children being tossed aside as garbage because they were not wanted, obviously the first law (which, for all I know, is something extremely general and not written specifically to include abortion survivors) was not adequate.

And he then pulls all the doctors in Illinois around him as shields. Not an effective argument.

I think he does have an infanticide problem. It’s probably because he realizes his voters and wife are VERY committed to protecting abortion at all costs.

And if we’re placing a burden on the doctor that says you have to keep alive even a previable child as long as possible and give them as much medical attention as — as is necessary to keep that child alive, then we’re probably crossing the lines in terms of unconstitutionality.
