No, actually, died rather prosaically of the 'flu, in one of the minor pandemics that preceded the Great Pandemic of 1918.

All sorts of rumors about his sexual misconduct and supposed VD circulated during his life (and after his death) - he was even put forward as a possible Jack the Ripper suspect.
