No matter our relationship with China; and what a heinous Government China's citizens must abide; our citizen athletes are their on 'our' behalf; for our collective pride/pleasure; there is an altruism here; along with personal desire; that move our athletes to compete on the world stage. If THEY show up; if they carry our 'Flag' - one that speaks to Democracy and Freedom; then our President needs to be there on 'their' behalf - and ours - as well, when they formally begin the Games.)

The idea that Bush should not attend; seems to overlook the fact by his not attending, it is first, our athletes that are being insulted; and by extension, the insult comes back to all of America.

Oh NOW, I get it! 'My bad' here for struggling to understand what is it about China, the Left finds worth protesting - given that the Left's own ideology is simpatico; consistent, with the totalitarian ideals shared by other 'Dear Leaders' around the world; including China. After all, was it not the Socialist World Community, by and large, that ordained - and so voted - that China deserved to host the Games?

(What about China escaped their attention, when this decision was made; that now has them demanding that Bush should not attend opening ceremonies?)

Convolutions of logic straighten out here; if we view this as just another way/opportunity for an American President to be mocked publicly on a 'world stage' - before the world community at-large and for America to get some spit in 'her eye' as well.

OTOH. . .I could be wrong here.

I won’t be watching one second of these games. It’s a pox on humanity to hold them in a nation like China. It’s embarrassing to be a human on this planet, when it’s leaders get something this wrong.

We should all hang our heads in shame.

5,000 people were machine gunned and run over by tanks not far from the Olympic grounds, around 20 years ago. Their crime, erecting a replica of our Statue of Liberty, and not hiding under their beds at home like good little commies.

I haven’t forgotten them, so I can have a swell time over the next two weeks watching our citizens participate in a global sham.

I know it sounds like I’m faulting you. I don’t mean to even if the wording sounds like I’m speaking to you or anyone else who would watch or participate. I just can’t do it.

I’m angry about the situation, and this is how I express that. You take care.

Am sympathetic to your views here; the only ground I take here lies beyond our Country's decision to participate in what can easily be seen as a 'sham' by many measures and manipulations; but yet, all underscored by the desire to compete on what is an 'idealized world field'. . .and if only for a moment, to have that perception be made a reality.

My point is only that IF we are particpating - irrespective of politcal geopgraphy; and our athletes are there, competing under 'our Flag'; then their/our President, should be there to welcome theme; more importantly, SUPPORT them, as the 'Games begin'.

We are surely free, as private citizens to not watch. And whether 'the politics of the day'; or just more televised options; more are choosing not to.

(My real question here, goes again; at least first, to Nancy Pelosi; 'what about China do you take issue with; that had you demanding that our President not attend 'opening ceremonies'; GIVEN your own, ideological preferences and the world 'Leadership' you count as your friends. . .and your demanding that Bush should 'try and get along' - 'make nice'; rather than alienating this 'community' of world leadership? Now here is another BIG sham, for sure. . .)
